I've been driving for just over a year and have been insured on my dads policy (i shared his car). does this mean i have one years no claims bonus as I haven't made any claims? (i am now trying to insure my own car) thanks.

Since this will be your first policy you will not qualify for any type of no claims discount. Your rates will be higher than normal because of your age (assuming you are under 21 or 24). Younger drivers have to pay more since they are viewed as being more apt to be involved in accidents due to lack of experience.

The no claim bonus is applied to the OWNER of the policy. Not the drivers.

So no, you don't get a no-claims bonus.

Not exactly. Your Dad has benefitted by you not having an accident. It will help you when you apply for your own insurance. Your age will be a factor.
