going outside (or on a treadmill) and jogging for 10 minutes? Why or why not?

Meaning carido-wise. Would you burn the same amount of calories?

jogging on the spot is not only boring but doesn't use the same muscles as going out for a run outside. Same can be said for the treadmill. Running outside going over rougher terrain is going to be a much better workout than either of the two.

It is not really a question of which is more effective, they are each effective in their own way. Both exercises are about equal in terms of cardiovascular exertion. However, both will develop different muscle areas. Running in place will focus on the front leg muscles mostly, but jogging will tone and firm your thighs, calves and hips. Jogging outside or on treadmill is probably an overall better exercise, but jogging in place can be done also. It is important to keep some variety in your routine so your body doesn't fall into a rut.

If you are worried about burning calories, find your target heart rate: 0.8(120-your age). This is the beats per minute you should aim for for max weight loss. To find beats per minute, count the number of times your heart beats in 10 seconds (by pulse in neck), then multiply that number by six for beats per minute. Once you have reached your target rate, you should stay there for at least 30 minutes. By using this method, you can get good results from any cardio program, even running in place. However, like some of the others said, it may be easier to jog for longer periods of time.

Well when you are jogging in place you may not keep up the same pace as you would on a treadmill as the treamill is moving at a constant rate. The outside jogging would include up and downhill (even slight) so that would introduce an element that you would not have jogging in place.

probably not but use what you have, if you dont have a treadmill than jog on the spot. the technique is different as on a treadmill you keep moving forward but the tread is moving too, also you can vary the speed on a treadmill but not while jogging on the spot. if you want to exercise in your room try aerobics its fun, and you can do it with a friend. any exercise will tone your muscles so if you have a stairstepper than use it? u can get the same effect from running up and down a staircase. dont worry about calories if you just want to be healthy and not lose weight. goodluck i hopei have helped you

If jogging outside involves going on a smooth, flat track, then probably, but your chances of continuing such a boring workout in the long run are much less.

When boredom, depression, or maybe stress causes cravings, find a nonfood way in order to meet them such as going on a walk, calling a friend, having a bath, reading a book, or doing some yoga.
