I have four sets of BDU's and six sets of DCU's that are taking up a lot of space. Should I store them until after I get out of the Army or can I get rid of them? And either way, does anybody know if this is in the regulations so I can have it in writing?

While I was home on R&R, my wife arranged for our "stuff" to be delivered out of storage into our new house. When we unpacked our stuff, there were 15 sets of BDUs, four sets of DCUs and over ten pairs of black boots. I told my wife she could give them all away to Goodwill or whoever would take them (after she took my nametapes off).

I was in Iraq when the wear out date happened, so my BDUs are still sitting in storage. You might have to turn in some DCUs when you PCS or ETS, so you should look into that. I have to turn in four sets of ACUs when I leave this place.

Other than that, I would suggest donating the pants, but destroying the coats, for security reasons.

I had several sets of the old BDUs and sold them at a yard sale. Recently my ex-husband asked if I still had some. I had to tell him "no". His request was for members of the Civil Air Patrol in LA, where he lives now. I'm guessing other CAPs may be in need of them, so their members don't have to buy them.

You can donate them to a Homeless shelter (make sure you take off ALL your patches and stripes) for homeless men and women to wear, I've seen people donate them to goodwill and other charity stores. My husband cut his BDU pants into shorts and wears them to mow the lawn. There's no reason to keep them, you'll never wear them again.

If your still in the Army, turn them into supply. There should be a wearout date for them in which case you can exchange them for the new ACUs. Keep any and all documents that you might get from the exchange-you never know if you may end up needed them.

My husband (a Marine) put his with our camping gear and wears them when we go camping and four wheeling.
