That is the question of the day. Veterans Day. A time
set aside for all of those who sacrificed life and limb, for
the continued freedom of our country. The United States
of America. But our soldiers have been forsaken, many
of them. Watch CBS news tonight at 6:30 PM Eastern
time. A special on the suicide rate of war torn soldiers. *
Now the President did not attend the National Honor
Memorial ceremony. For whatever reason.... And a lot
of people have the day off, during that time. So the big
cooperations could go to the bank, on the backs of these
veterans. Taking funds out of public services, so they could
end up in Walter Reid's type situation. In other words,
a vet hospital dump. In all the humanity ! Is Veterans
Day a scam ? Best answer wins. *

I think it is a scam to the president. If he didn't attend something that big, as the "commander in chief" then he is again showing his stripes. He is an embarassment to the US & all the troops. My father was on WW2, & my brother served during Viet Nam, & I saw veterans on Sunday & thanked them for their service to this country!
Bush is the embarassment, the soldiers & veterans are the people to be proud of!

No! Veterans Day is NOT a scam! Don't you think that the soldiers who fought in past wars deserve to have AT LEAST one day when people remember to honor them? I DO! I think these men deserve to have parades and ceremonies and to get together with there families. And for the one's who have past away, it is a day for us all to remember the sacrafices that they made for US, and a day that their family members can proudly share memories of them. Veterens Day is no more a scam than Martin Luther King Day or Presidents Day! I think these are ALL very important holidays that represent important events we need to be reminded of MORE often.

Veterans Day is most certainly NOT a scam.

But in our society today, where ROTC is not permitted on some campuses, where elected officials don't say The Pledge or put their hand over their heart for the Star Spangled Banner, where funerals of our brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice are picketed by hate groups, our priorities are clearly misguided.

We need to take the time to thank our brave troops, to let them know how much we appreciate their service.

Regardless of how many seem to have forgotten, there are many of us who remember and appreciate the sacrifice of our veterans.

God Bless Our Troops, past and present.

It doesn't matter what day it is, you should always remember our veterans. It is sad that suicide happens in the military, but that doesn't make Veteran's Day a scam. Our military do more work than most, and make so little in return and their medical care after the military is shoddy. Yet Congress approves a pay raise for themselves every year.

Geoff C raises some good points as well. My boss retired from the Army almost 40 years ago, and we always work on Veteran's Day, as well as Memorial Day.

Veteran's Day to most people is just another day off work/School. For those that have served or those who have family or loved one's who have served the day has meaning.

It is no different than MLK's birthday. Too most (of any race) it is just another day off, but to those who marched with him or felt or saw the civil rights movement go forward it is a special day.

Although I am a Disabled Veteran and would like everyone to get what I get out of Veteran's day, It is hard to expect people who have not been personally touched by what causes the day to be special to understand it's importance.

And yes business see it as a way to profit from yet another holiday, but that is business

The suicide rate has more to do with the stigma attached to getting help. It can and does affect your career in the military and also makes one feel like they are weak. I myself have not went in to get any counseling even though I am now out of the Marine Corps becuase I am afraid that it might keep me from owning a gun for hunting and also might affect other parts of my life.

As for the President not attending he had someone else attend and that is fine with me. If no one showed up then I would have a problem.

The premise of Vetran's Day is not a scam. What business make it with their sales and things like that have no real effect on what happens with those who really understand what the day is about. people really do take the time to honor those who served and that makes it a good thing. If you are looking for scams look at Valentine's day and holidays like that. They were simply created to generate business. Yes they are fun but no real purpose. If you have to have a day set aside to tell your S/O you care then you have more to worry about

I nonetheless have my lively accountability decal on my window. once I watch there reaction, i additionally suspect they seem to be a scam. a number of them have VA id, or a minimum of they look like VA IDs. What i advise you do is get in touch of the interior sight police and have them investigated. in the event that they are actually not registered to be obtainable soliciting donations, they must get locked up. i'm uninterested in folk utilising the armed forces to scam human beings out of money. It sounds to me you have carried out your learn and located those crooks out. Now we could end them and get them off the streets.

The President attended a memorial for four soldiers killed in Iraq, the Vice President attended the ceremonies at Arlington in his stead. That hardly seems like forsaking the day to me.

You got some nerve to ask this question. Maybe you should find a better way to ask this question, because Veterans Day is far from a scam! Why else would you be able to ask this question?

I hate it when people attempt to speak for the military as a group.

If you have issues with the way veterans are treated, I'm with you. But I fail to follow your jump in logic that Veterans' Day is therefore a "scam."
