If it's a fresh tattoo, I would use baby A&D ointment or bacitracin. Lotion isn't best for new tattoos. After a few days, I usually switch to a Vaseline lotion that has Vit. E. But be sure it has no fragrance!!!

ALWAYS ALWAYS listen to your artist!!!! Because worst case scenario, if something happens to your tattoo (like it fades within 1 yr or doesn't heal correctly) they will most likely fix it for free. Make sure you wash you tattoo like 6-10 times a day with Dial Gold pump soap (not the bar because that would be sharing bacteria). And also make sure you moisturize it quite often. Don't put a glob of lotion or ointment, but just enough to make it slightly glisten. Curel unscented lotion, Lubriderm unscented lotion, and/or Aquaphor ointment are all really good moisturizers. After you wash your tatt pat it dry with a new paper towel, and let the tatt dry for 10-20 mins before you moisturize it. Apply the moisturizer of choice and completely rub it into the tattoo<~~~but dont rub your tattoo hard. If you think you put too much just pat the excess moisturizer with a clean paper towel. Before you do all this make sure you have CLEAN hands!!!! (Wash your hands before touching your tattoo!!!) Good Luck!!! Like I said Curel unscented lotion, Lubriderm unscented lotion, and/or Aquaphor ointment are all really good moisturizers. I personally used Lubriderm unscented lotion on both of my tattoos.

If you do choose to use A&D ointment on your tattoo be sure that you use it spairingly...same for the baby lotion because they are designed to make your skin soft and can actually soften the ink and cause the tattoo to fade, I would recommend using a non scented lotion like jergens and you dont even really want to use that heavily. Just try and keep a nice coat of unscented lotion and be sure to wash it like two to three times a day.

using any type of unscented lotion works just fine, as long as you use it sparingly and don't over-do it. Curel and Lubriderm are good brands, as long as they're unscented. you could also use neosporin or a&d ointment. the key is just keeping it moisturized so the itching stays at a minimum and to help it heal better.
just remember to use anything sparingly, because you don't want to drench the tat in lotion/ointment, just keep it from drying out. also remember not to pick the scabs off yourself, let them fall off naturally because you don't want to pull the color with the scab
I wouldn't suggest using baby lotion though. it may be a little too thick and it's scented also...
hope this helps :)

Just about any lotion would work, but if you have more sensitive skin, use one with out any perfume or alcohol in it. But the best thing to use is the tattoo goo at the place you get it done at, they should have given you some!!!

I have always been told to use a mild, gentle lotion on mine. Preferably something without dyes or perfumes. Just make sure to use a good quality lotion. Avoid anything with mineral oil as it is just a cheap filler and can clog pores.

I cant spell it, but Hemorrhoid cream any type such as Anusol. is the best stuff apparently. when i had my first tattoo, i used it and it does work..the active ingredient that shrinks piles, shrinks the swelling and taught skin around the new tattoo..it healed really quick..honestly no joke, now when i get a tattoo i use my anusol cream. !!
