I have had a dull ache in my side for a week, then thursday and Friday last week I suffered what my doctor called Renal Colic and was screaming in agony! I had an injection and some tablets. the spasms have subsided but still 3 days later I feel sick and still ache like crazy. It still feels like someone is stabbing me when I move. Is this normal, have I passed the stone? Thanks x

if you had a kidney stone, the doctor should have done a CT scan to see if it did indeed pass. The on going ache in your side would indicate to me that it may be obstructing your uretur causing the kidney to swell and cause that ache, is what happened to me just this week. I had to have Lithotripsy to remove it.

Renal stones can in fact mean renal gravel, this is just as painful, but is only sand sized grains that don't show up on X-ray. It is only possible to say that the stone( or gravel ) has passed if you actually see it. To facilitate this urine of renal colic patients was filtered through muslin detect the particles, this is seldom done these days.

By the way i guess you already know or can guess, that renal colic is in the top 3 most painful conditions. These are in no particular order, renal colic, child birth and heart attack.

Yes, I had 2 last year. First time did not know what was happening and ended up in hospital with dose of morphine - nice!!! Once it was passed all was better immediately.

Second one was a month or so later - still very painful but as I knew what it was I just took the tablets (or rather put them where they needed to be!) and it passed in about 3 hours. Immediately felt better.

If yours is still hurting I advise you go back and ask for scan. They use a dye which highlights the blockage.

I know that mine were down to drinking too little fluid so keep up the water intake in future.

I can't compare with pain of childbirth but women I know say its worse. Now I know why men don't have babies

It is agony and you will know when you pass them you will feel a gritty feeling. Plenty water( and/or beer) keep peeing.
