Limewire is legal, using it to download copyrighted material (practically all the content on the network) without the permission of the copyright holder is not.

Limewire is a pier to pier network and like all P2P's it is legal. But, downloading material that is copy written is "not" legal. So if you are sharing private data across the network, then all is fine. If you are sharing or downloading anything with a copyrite , then you are setting yourself up for trouble.

Its only illegal if you do illegal things with it, such as download music that you do not legally own. This all depends on your country's set of law's, and if you are allowed to share music with other people or not. Contact your lawyer for more information on pertaining laws to your area.

The software itself isn't illegal. Using it to share copyrighted content is.

ILLEGAL -- and probably one of the worst programs you could use. (Viruses, etc...)
Limewire will screw you.
-There is a version you can pay for however.
