I just want to help ease some of the stereotypes people have against muslimahs. So I'm asking:

Do you like wearing the hijab, if you do?

Were you forced to?

Are you treated with equality by men?

I already know the answers, I just want to put it out there for people to read.....

So the answer are coming from the actual women of Islam.........NOT coming from white protestant males, or governement officials, or women who believe that the US grants them 100% equal rights, which is not true.

Maple VT, I am talking about how in America you can not deny there is a double standard among women and men, and many women are exploited in entertainment industries. No one has a problem with strippers or pornos or escort services, which all disgrace women by the way....... but when women want to cover themselves up..........people protest saying they should take it off...why? You dress up and look beautiful for whom? Society's standards? Man made standards?

women think they have equality, but they are very wrongly mistaken. Only 2% of rapists in America get convicted.

And you are also wrong saying people can't stand up and speak their opinion in the Muslim community. You must not know many Muslims personally.

FEZ, I love Sujood!- You are right.....by NO MEANS am I saying that women are equal with men, because we are women and are made differently, therefore, we should be treated with respect and according to such. I guess I meant

"are you treated with respect by men?".

Thank you for correcting and clarifying what I really meant.

I wear hijab... yep I like it... it gives me the right to be valued on how smart I am rather than my breast size or degree of sexiness!!!

Nope... I'm currently in the US... and last time I checked they said it was a free country!!!

Not really... I've been treated better than men... :D

Islam has very simple and basic principles. what makes someone superior or inferior is not based on ones race, gender, wealth or anything else. it depends on Taqwa. That being said, i would prefer the word equity over equality, because equality means same in everything. but that's not how it is. this can be observed physically too, some aspects are more in favor of men while others more in favor of women. Its balanced in that manner. Islam tells Muslim men to treat women with kindness and respect. Muslim men are to guarder and protect women.

1) Yes, they do. Because it is for religion.
2) Forced!!! there are many ways to force a person to do things. Some are, and some are not. In some countries they have a dress code for women, such as Saudi, and they can't break them. In Saudi a woman can't even go to the doctor without a male companion.
3) Equality! where is on earth women are treated equal by men! Not on this earth.
A tough CEO women, she is a b...., but a tough CEO man he is strong.
A fat woman: she is a ugly, a fat man he is distinguish.

Thank You. My grand mother did wear it, my mother did for a while, my aunt did, but after she got divorced took it off. I can name many others. It is comfortable just to go and grab the scarf and there she goes.

Dear FEZ™ ~I luv Sujood! ~ , in the sight of God everyone is equal. It is another thing in the sight of man. Men and women are not treated equally. and that is the truth.

sen b, Thanks for your caring. Dear sister, where did you see in my post anywhere that implies I never meet a man who treat women equally!

Yes, you did misunderstand. Maybe in your utopia women are treated equally. I don't think so. That is my opinion. You disagree! fine. But you know that it is true.

If anyone wants to keep their fingers! better not come near my sister with a scarf and tell her she should cover her hair. (kidding)

Edit,
Dear FEZ, ignore the thumbs down, and pay attention to the thumbs up.
Thank you. I will remember that women want equity not equality next time I hear women asking for equality.

sorry guys im a guy, but i just wanted to reply to Mable VT....research what shriaa mentions about justice for women and then compare it to the fact that here in america, it doesnt matter if someone violates a woman. It matters what the jury thinks and how well a lawyer can present a case. Why is this? because they dont trust a single persons testimony. Because in america, if the criminal is in the hands of a few people who witnessed the crime, everyone can expect the witnesses to lie. Where as Islam is based on moral standards totally. Lying is out of question, so we can trust one persons words, we dont need an entire jury or court to bring justice. in islam, if we do indeed witness a crime and have other witnesses, whoever they may be, the suspect can be condemed. what was the rate of convicted rapists in america? 2%? so for every 100 rapists, just 2 get convicted? think about it folks, do all the research then talk.

Some people think that Muslim women are oppressed but they are sorely mistaken. Islam offers me the utmost freedom. I don't feel oppressed in the slightest. I have been considering wearing the Hijab for a while now and I have made up my mind to start wearing it very soon InshaAllah.

Yes, I like wearing hijab.
No, it was my choice (and continues to be my choice) to wear it.

Are any women treated with equality by other men (as in mankind)? NO, women around the world, including in the USA are not treated 100% equally no matter what their religion is and if ppl really thought about what it meant I don't think they would want equality, I think they would want equity.

I am treated very well by my husband and by other Muslim men if that is what you meant.

I would change your question to equity. Quite frankly, I do not wish to be treated as a man (which would mean completely equally). I want EQUITY. I am a WOMAN, I don't want to be a man!!!! I don't want to give up my womanhood to take on the responsibilities of men etc.

I am a Muslim American who converted to Islam of her own free will. I am a college student, I work, and I am a wife too.

EDIT: Look how they try to keep us silent with all these thumbs down!
