Alabama is supposed to have the lowest taxes but I don't see how. As a single man with middle class income in the high 70's, I'm taxed to death. State tax, Federal tax, Medicare tax, county tax (for working in Jefferson county), city tax (for working in the city limits of Birmingham).

South Dakota does no longer have a state earnings tax, basically sources taxes. If the legislature tried to set a state earnings tax (which i think it has) they could be ridiculed. no human being contained in the state (except libs) want a state earnings tax.

as far as I know Texas has no income tax but has a higher property tax, check both things out, because the government is going to screw you in some way to tax you, soo check income tax and property tax values,

http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/ind_inc.html shows the state income tax rates in the various states. You will notice that several states don't have any state income tax.
Federal taxes are the same no matter what state you live in.
