That is satan trying to plant doubt in your mind. Christ has set the example of how we should live our lives. GOD knows your heart and if you are sincere.

Read the Bible, but first put God first in your life, "God is not valued at all unless He is valued above all." Some of what the Bible tells us to do is hard, but unless we do it then we have no hope of growing closer to Him. And when feel that little inpulse to do something and you don't know where it came from, then do it because it might be the Holy Spirit tugging on your heart. There is no wrong way to pray, just talk to God about life, not just complaining to Him, but thanking Him too. And when you pray, take time to listen, what God has to say is more important than what you have to say, so take some time each day to quietly listen. Go to church, it helps to be with other people who love God too. If you still don't feel God in your life then I would take a look at your life to see if there is anything that you have not totally surrendered to God. God bless.

You are seeking answers that only God can provide to you. Be patient and he will.
Read your Bible and pray daily. And if you are praying to Him, you are praying correctly. Seek Him and you will find Him.
There is a hymn with lyrics that go, "Spirit of The Living God, fall afresh on me". So you are not alone in seeking God. All do, and many feel the need for renewal as well. That tells you that it is a never ending search.
Cheers.

To seek God, read His word, even if it's just a chapter a day. There are one year Bibles that have plans for what to read each day, or even "Daily Bread" tracts, that have a different lesson to focus on each day. The Daily Bread series is great because it helps you focus on different facets and gives you a guideline to follow. You can also go to Bible study at your church or buy individual Bible study guides at any religious bookstore. As for prayer, if you're just starting out, just be sincere, God knows your heart, He just wants you to willingly share with Him and invite Him into your life. Go to Luke 11:1-12, this is what's called the "Lord's Prayer", but is really just a blueprint on how we should pray; you don't have to pray it word for word, though many do. I hope this helps you get started, but don't be shy about asking your pastor for assistance with this; not only is it his/her job, but good pastors love it when people really want to connect to God and when they give them the opportunity to help them.

Tough Question.
I used to struggle with this daily for years.
The problem you will find, is that no-one has a definitive answer for you. Some will say that it is in reading the bible. However there are thousands of denominations that resulted from biblical understanding and interpretation, which proves that it is unclear.
Some will say that it is in prayer, but if you don't feel God during prayer, then who is to tell?
Others will say that you should talk to a pastor or minister or priest, unfortunately that is placing your eternal salvation in the hands of another human, which the bible says not to do.
There is no answer, because religion is based on faith, and faith is subjective, which is why one man can read a bible verse and use it to justify killing, when another can read it and claim it forbids killing. It is all subjective.
I have found that life is better when you spend it basing your belief system on things are are more readily available. If God is real and is love, he will sort it all out after death, but given that he hasn't seen fit to show himself tangibly and clear up his will for individuals, it makes sense to rely on the tangible and trust in education rather than other people's gut feelings.

God knows what you are thinking. I didn't know there really was a wrong way to pray. Just ask Him to show you the way and He will. Following God is about continually growing and gaining a greater understanding. But....if you still feel that you need a boost.....try reading the Bible...or speaking to a minister.

Oh, puddin'! I feel your pain. it was like that for me at first, too. i finally laid it all out on the line. I opened my heart to the God Almighty and asked Him to reveal Himself to me. I told Him that I loved Him and that I believe what The Bible said about history and what He has done for us and His creation. I Confessed that I am not able to stand before Him because of His perfection and If he would forgive me for all the things that I have done in the past to hurt others, myself and especially HIM. I believed the Sacrifice that He made for me by the death of Jesus Christ, and that He raised again from the grave a rose into heaven and then gives the Holy Spirit to those that ask. I Confessed those facts cause I believe it in my heart. I also said that because of what He has said in His Word that it does not matter how I "feel" but that I know that He is now a part of my life a will not go a day with out acknowledging Him and asking for His guidance. As I read and study in my Bible more and more and pray and trust, I realize just how real He is for me and in my life. Before I read the Bible, a lot of times I will ask for God to open my eyes of understanding for what I need to know about Him and also His plan for me in my life, and He does.
I will pray for you when I hit Submit.
God Bless and bring you into His Truth and Knowledge!

First pray and ask Jesus to be your personal savior. You will always pray correctly if you pray from your heart and repent for the sins you have committed by omission and commission. God has always and will be your life just be open and listen to your heart. and do not let other people tell you how you must fell.

Seek first the presence of the Holy Spirit. Everything comes from His Precious Graces. If He wills it then you can do the ordinary conversation....
Your wanting of his guidance is a sign that God is near you waiting to be discovered by yourself.
Empty yourself, humble yourself and let Him come in and dwells in you.
If it's hard to start:
Find a silent place where you can appreciate nature, He is there. Your conversation becomes more intimate in a peaceful place. Don't forget to thank Him...

Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. Isaiah 43:1b(Amplified Bible)
I am praying for you to find what you are searching for. The bible is full of promises for you. God loves you and wants you to earnestly seek him. Keep praying what is in your heart. If you need to go talk to a pastor, or priest, or minister(which ever you have), but don't give up. "Seek him while he may be found" Isaiah 55:5.

Pray for wisdom and truth. Pray that God leads you to the right way to worship and what requirements does he have of you. If your heart is in the right place, he'll send someone to you. Be prepared, it may not be at all what you thought it to be, but again if your heart is in the right place, he'll hear you and rightfully answer your prayers.
Proverbs 15:29
------------------------
"Jehovah God is far away from the wicked ones, but the prayer of the righteous ones he hears".
