If you can't boil an egg at your age I'm not surprised she left ya!

Firstly, boil enough water in the kettle to cover the egg. While the water is heating up, prepare the rest of the breakfast.

If you are removing the egg straight from the fridge, them prick the rounded end of the egg with a pin. This prevents the egg from cracking when put into the water.

When the water has boiled, pour the required quantity into the pan. Turn on the heat, and wait until the water boils furiously. Soft boiled

This is the egg with a runny yolk and a lightly cooked white. The egg should be boiled for no longer than three minutes for this state to occur. This applies, regardless of how many eggs there are in the pan. The soft boiled egg causes the most problems, as there are many questions due to the timing and their safety. British guidelines state that those in vulnerable groups, ie, very young children, those who are pregnant and the elderly, should not eat this type of egg. On the other hand, this does take the fun out of consuming it, as you cannot have 'Eggy Soldiers' with them (Toast cut into strips.)

Hard Boiled

This is the egg with a solid white and a completely solid yolk. Considered the safest, but also the less fun option. Boil for about eight minutes. This state of boiled egg inevitably causes problems due to timing, because if you remove the egg from the water too soon, you will end up with an egg with a soft centre.

1 bunch asparagus
4 eggs, room temperature
Maldon or other sea salt


Cut the woody ends off the asparagus, and cook in a shallow saucepan of boiling water until tender but still has some bite - about 5 minutes. Then drain them and keep them warm while you cook the eggs.
In a saucepan, bring some water to the boil into which you have dropped a matchstick; according to my Aunt Frieda this stops the white from billowing out into the pan should the egg crack while cooking. Am I going to promise this works? Well, all families have their folklore.

Lower the eggs into the water and cook them at a steady boil for about 4 minutes. Take them out of the water and immediately slice the top of each one; the yolk should still be runny enough to dip the asparagus spears in.

Make sure that there's salt on the table for sprinkling into the almost aggressive blandness of the egg and spear, as you eat, with the warm asparagus. and may i suggest doing it at sunset on your porch and have some scented candles lit of her favorite smell

Boiling an egg is simple once you have mastered the basics.

Preparation Time:
Serves: 2

Ingredients
2 Large Lion Quality eggs
Water for boiling
Pinch of salt
Buttered toast cut into soldiers to serve (optional)


Method

1. Place egg in a small pan. Cover with at least 2.5cm (1") of cold water, add a pinch of salt and place the pan on a high heat.

2. When the water is almost boiling, gently stir the egg and set a kitchen timer for one of the timings below:

3 minutes for really soft boiled yolk and set white
4 minutes for slightly set yolk and set white
5 minutes for firmer yolk and white
6 minutes for hard boiled with lightly soft yolk
7 minutes for firmly hard boiled


3. Reduce heat slightly to keep water bubbling but not fast boiling and stir the egg once more.

4. Once cooking time is complete, remove the egg from the pan with slotted spoon, place into egg cup and serve immediately with hot buttered toast soldiers.

Cooking Tip

To prevent egg cracking, make a small pin prick in the shell at the rounded end to allow the steam to escape.

Saucepan - water - egg - boil 3-4 mins place in egg cup slice off top with sharp knife.

Add one slice of buttered bread or toast - cut into finger sized "soldiers" - sprinkle a little salt on yoke - dip in soldier - devour.

Boil the water add egg,depending on size cook for 4-5 mins.
Rememmber if you leave it standing before talking off it`s head it will carry on cooking.So be quick!
