If it's just cracked as in peeling like a fingernail, this is fine. Birds beaks are a lot like human fingernails and will peel and grind down with chewing and such. If it's an actual crack all the way through to the other side, that is something that needs to be examined by an avian vet. Beaks have nerves and blood vessels so he could be in pain.

Examine all the possible causes of this injury so you can explain them to the vet. Do you have another bird that may have caused the injury? Did you bird fall?

Good luck!

bad nutrition (like an all-seed diet) or disease? take it to a vet that does blood tests and such. Can also crack a beak when it falls down, but that won't scratch the beak. That needs a vet's help.

my african grey scratches up his beak against this perch that's supposed to keep his nails trimmed, so we keep removing the perch (and put it back) depending on the condition of this beak.

but cracks are NOT GOOD. birds sometimes show no signs of anything beign wrong until they get really sick and die. so when in doubt, go to a vet.

Some scratches are common, but cracked isn't. Get it the bird to a vet, there are numerous things it "could" be and the the beak is a vital instrument for them. Plus, the bird could be in pain also and you wouldn't know it.
