Romans were scared of the Christians because to be a Roman citizen you pledged your allegance to the god roma. It was also the way that the roman senate got people under control because to listen to ceasar was to be listening to the god incarnate on earth. Christians refused this because they pledged their allegance to Jesus The King of Kings. The is a historical record of a letter from a general of the romans army to a govenor stating that he was truely scared because the more that he tortured and persecuted these Christians the more they multiplied. More and more started to believe this Way.

One of the emporers decided to try to stop fight it and instead mix a little here and a little there, and then the next followed suit and so on. So They did not in fact "make" The roman catholic religion. It kinda' just "became".

And, uh, yes, they knew the teachings of Jesus, just like any other "cultured" person of the times because that was a part of the culture and part of their day to day knowledge. But it is just like today. We all know, but then ask why don't we follow??

Lions are gonna get fat either way. If they did not keep them in captivity, they would have been able to eat what they hunted and not what they were fed.

God Bless

The Romans were afraid of the Christians because they viewed them as a threat to the security of state.

Where did you get this nonsense? Jesus formed the Catholic Church not the Romans.

Constantine found that the new religion was very pliable and very ripe for usage by the state.

It is allot easier to take a newly formed religion and use it, rather than an older one who's followers are entrenched in ritual and tradition. Christianity was different in every town, we can see this in Paul's writings, so Constantine realized there was an opportunity for him to consolidate power and lengthen the reign of a crumbling Roman empire.

Have you ever wondered why God didn't stop it from happening. The Old Testament is full of stories showing God keeping his chosen flock pure. Yet he allows he new religion to be co-opted by the Roman empire who crusified his son?

Doesn't really make sense

Fear is the biggest mover and shaker in the world. What do you think war is all about? People can be made to do a lot of things out of fear of death. The christians did not fear that greatest of all hurdles - oh death - where is your sting? This really unsettled the great conquerors. What hold could anyone have over you if you did not fear the big dirt nap?

Basically there wasn't enough Christians out there. They were considered a cult. You had a carpenter, a prostitute and twelve misfits or social outcasts running around telling people about walking on water and the power to heal with a guy who they thought was god. All they were missing was the kool-aid and matching robes.

The Romans where no paranoid scared rabbits like the US today. The first Christians where used for convenient lion food, because it was to hard to convince the Northern Europeans to be feed to them. Later, when Rom got to lazy and its power was diminishing, they used - like you suggest - Christan's for political maneuvering. The Vatican was nothing but an attempt to survive the onslaught from the North and its roots are - again - like you say, pure political.

Jesus was very mean teaching violence, especially in the home front killing innocent babies and children!

Revelation 2:23 (NIV) (Jesus says) I WILL STRIKE HER CHILDREN DEAD. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds...

Roman Catholics are Christians so I see not why they would be scared of themselves. Christianity is the religion however there are many denominations of which Catholicism is one.
