My boyfriend of two years, and my soon to be husband, is 23 years old and STILL sucks his thumb! Its drving me crazy! And it seems like the more I ask him to stop, the more he gets mad and does it more. He said that he would stop once we got married, but I dont think I can wait that long, I've already been waiting for two years. So what are some helpful advice that you guys can give me to help him stop? They tried hot, nasty tasting stuff when he was younger and even that didnt work. Should I just get over it since I have already agreed to marry him, and just except it? Only serious answers only! I didnt use 5 points for smarta$$ people looking for an easy 2 points! Thank You!

People have strong views on thumb sucking, some ranking it alongside nose picking as a foul and unhygienic habit which will inevitably result in buck teeth and a lisp. Some, on the other hand, see it as an enjoyable and harmless comfort habit.
Believe it or not , there are TONS and TONS of articles on this and there are COMFORT groups and COUNSELING on this......YEP!!

I'm sorry May May, but I don't know what to tell you girl! My Mother and one of my friends in Elementary school, used to have the same problem. I don't know how she got out of it, but my Mother doesn't do it anymore. I think that's just one of those things that people eventually grow out of.
I bite my nails really bad and I'm trying to stop doing that myself. Maybe I will try that nasty tasting stuff you mentioned. If you already agreed to marry him, it is something that you will have to deal with for now, but ask him why he does it exactly. I'm curious to know myself. I've never seen a guy suck his thumb. Kind of strange. I thought that was something that mostly women did. Hmmmm.

Apparently, this is a large problem. You could use aversion therapy if you want. Try putting something distasteful on the tips of his thumbs before he goes to sleep. This will Stop him temporarily and talk to him and tell him it isn't right for him to be doing this at his age.

this is tough one...
but you have agreed to marry him already...and he has told you that he would stop when yall were married...
youve waited 2 years whats a bit more time...i bet if you dont say another word to him about it and ignore the fact that he does it completly, like dont say anything about it at all...you will notice him doing it less...
I think at this point it may be an aggrivation thing...

ummm..honestly I have never heard of anyone still doing that when they were soo old maybe he might be doing it to annoy you?? I do believe that they sell a clear nail polish for nail bitters and maybe it might work for him ..if not then try to make a deal with him for every week that he doesnt suck his thumb you will give him something in return for being such a "good boy"...lol..if you know what I mean..lol..sorry If I have no REAL answers just never heard of this before..best of luck either way!

Thumbsucking is his way of coping with stress/pressure. So since he is 23 it will be difficult to stop. You can try to replace one bad habit with another (like give him a stress ball).
If you wait after marriage, it's too late. You can never change a man AFTER marriage. 100% guaranteed.

You can't change him. He's only going to do it if he wants to and obviously he doesn't want to. So you either shut up and live with it or don't marry him.
