We gather at my sister's house and the shoes gather in the hall. We end up tripping over them and losing one or two in pile.

Unusual unless you have a white carpet...most people are
not prepared for this...they may have holes in their socks.
But if this is what you want, get a large, circular, low basket
and put them all in there by the door. If they're not too many
people coming, you might want to call them and let them
know ahead of time so they won't be upset or surprised.
You'd be amazed at the amount of people who don't
understand or wish this.

If I'm just having a small gathering, yes I like them to take their shoes off. But if I had the entire family take theirs off, there wouldn't be enough room in the house for all those shoes!

Yeah, I hate when people have their shoes on in the house. For starters, you don't know where they've been or what they've trodden in, secondly if people are wearing shoes inside they just look as if they're about to leave again. So the shoes go in the hallway, which is very small so there's usually just a pile somewhere.

I don't have very big gatherings, but when people come over, (especially when my father hosts a big hockey draft here at the house) they usually leave their shoes in the middle of the front hall.

well... when i used to live in the US, it was like an unspoken law "TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES, OR DONT COME IN!"
I always thought that it was impolite to walk into someone's house with my shoes on anyways. So, when I even visit friends, I take off my shoes and when they visit me, they know to take theirs off too. And if I happen to think that my friends have disgusting floors, I just make sure that I wear socks!

But now that I live in Asia... it's not very common to take of your shoes! So I dont do it anymore unless there is a big pile already by the door.

But to directly answer your question! No, we dont have family take off their shoes (anymore) but sometimes they insist!

Leave your shoes on at my house. I went to this doode's party a couple years ago and shoes were everywhere. Mine some how accidently got pushed outside the sliding door. Mr. Big Dog chewed one of them up! I really liked these shoes! I got a surprise gift alright. I'm keepin' my shoes on or I'm not a goin next time!

Usually I make them all pile it up in the corner then I tell them I am going to put them up in my closet so they wont be in the way...that is when I hide and dont come out. I figure they have their shoes off drinking and eating so they wont miss me till its time to get the shoes

no family gathering just kids and me & dad- I actually always ask people to take off their shoes but most of the time they don't listen- hence why I am not inviting people over :)

I constantly tell them not to take off their shoes, but they do it anyway! They also find a place for them on their own! They all leave it in fron of the door...! Thank God, their feet are always clean!!!

The only time I see them is when I decide to go visit them. They can do whatever they want with their shoes.
