Are you sure you installed the batteries correctly? If so, it might be a capacitor problem. This was a common problem for the X-series cameras. (X-700, X-570/500, X-370/300)

You might want to check at garryscamera.com. He has done a full CLA including new light seals on several of my Minolta cameras this year. He is very reasonable - $45 + $8 shipping with a fast turn around.
