more than likely Johnson will win this years championship, because of the chase rules. and Jeff Gordon also would have won the championship in 2004, if it wasn't for the chase. so if you think about it, if there wasn't a chase, Gordon would be on his way to becoming a 6 time chamionship winner. being only one cup alway from tying Dale Sr and Richard Petty... that is why i think Gordon must hate the chase.

The chase is embarssing. It showed its flaws this year when a man with a 500 point lead loses it because someone got on a streak and won the last 4 races. Gordon's worst finish in the chase is 11th and he had 2 wins. The man broke the record for top ten finishes in a season and its all for not? This is a joke. Gordon will always be a 6 time champion in my book. Im sorry but if the leader has a 200 or more point lead after richmond he should be rewarded with an extra 75 point cushion. Its only fair.

To whatican: You're obviously not too bright. Under the old system, Jeff would have his sixth championship. Your opinion of his driving skill CANNOT CHANGE THE FACTS!!!

But to answer the question....I'm sure Jeff is very upset at the new points system. But you know what? I'm pretty sure he can deal with it.

As a Gordon fan, I'm not happy that he's most likely not going to win the cup this year. But in the big picture, I can't say that Johnson is undeserving. 10 wins and 4 wins in a row in and of itself would deserve a title. He performed in exactly the manner in which the Chase format was set up for.

It boils down to the fact that we CANNOT compare the greatest drivers by stats such as championships. Once you change the scoring systems, that comparison is invalid.

Chase or no chase, he's still the undisupited 6 time champion, and mostly all of his fans and NASCAR followers will acknowledge that. The chase is took points away from a dominating season gave them undeservingly to Jimmie Johnson who's had nowhere near the success as Gordon other than the fact that he was a spot behind him, but at the same time 300+ points.

The ridiculous chase format has cost Jeff Gordon his 5th AND 6th Cup Championships.

Thank you for ruining NASCAR Brian France!

Whatever, Gordon is a six-time Champ in my opinion. He has done six times what Dale Sr. and Richard Petty did seven times: score the most total points in a season, and nobody can deny that. Erase the Chase!

This is costing him his 6th as it already cost him his fifth when Kurt Busch became the fake champion. Kurt and Jimmie will be the only fake champions so far as the other season point winners won the chase too, of course they all went into the chase leading since they were leading when it started. Strange concept to have your first place first of the season rewarded with being behind to start the playoffs. Suppose the Patriots will have to play a wild card game on the road to start the playoffs this year too?????????

I DON'T WISH JOHNSON BAD LUCK!! BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS CHASE!! THE MAN HAS MORE TOP 10'S AND IF HE GETS IN THE TOP 10 SUNDAY THAT WILL MEAN 30 TIMES THIS YEAR!!
HE HAS 6 WINS
HE HAS AVG. 5.2 ALL YEAR
ONE OF THE ANSWERERS SAID NOT TO COMPARE HIM WITH RICHARD PETTY
WELL HONEY IF THIS CHASE THAT FRANCE MADE UP HADN'T OCCURED HE WOULD HAVE 6 CHAMPIONSHIPS
ONE AWAY FROM PETTY...THAT IS RICHARD
A GUY I WORK WITH SAID HE LOOKED AT JEFF DIFFERENT NOW TALKING ABOUT BEING A GREAT SPORTMANSHIP AND TO TOP THAT OFF HE IS A JIMMIE JOHNSON FAN
THIS IS SO WRONG
IF HE FINISHES IN THE TOP 10 SUNDAY HE WILL BREAK A NEW RECORD....GO JEFF

of course he hates it. nascar was fine without the chase && everyone was happy with the championship. he hates it, and so do i. come on--why dont we throw out all the races but the last 10? thats basically what they have done with the chase, consistency means nothing as gordon has shown. hes been the best all season with the most top 5s and most top 10s, buttt...brian france has screwed it up for him to win his 6th championship. BBOOO to france.

I'm sure Gordo is hating the chase because technically, You're right.. The CHASE will (as of Sunday) cost him another drivers championship..

BUT ALSO...

As of this Sunday.. He will earn his 6th Cup Title... 4 as a driver, 2 as an owner.

So all in all... Gordo is probably crackin ' a smile, but @ the same time.. his gut is wrenchin'!

Begining to think there are several drivers and teams that are rethinking the chase.
Plus there are a load of fans that don't just think the chase blows but knows the chase blows.
