Pop stars have for many years been the gods of their faithful. The problem with their reign is that they can be replaced so easily by their fickled followers. In one sense, you are correct in that some who have no other religion, choose their music to take its place and have a worship experience between their favorite performer and their music.

Music has long had an influence on religion. Apart from the hymns that are sung in churches across the nation, many inspirational musical pieces have come along that inspire, and enhance our worship experience. I would never try to state that religion without music would be dull, but it does have its distinct place on the religious scene.

No. It's Western Culture as a whole that is the new religion, with "celebrities" of all stripes being our gods.
