(I'm not asking if you think it's great now) I mean, 200 short years ago, this nation was vast wilderness with a few settled towns and Native American Villages. Also what in your opinion do you attribute our great rise to?
As a Christian, I attribute it to the fact that our country was in most respects founded on God and for religious freedom. (My proof that it was founded on God being that God is in our Constitution, our pledge, on our money, our national anthem, etc.) Your thoughts on that. Thanks.

You are correct that we, as a nation, are blessed. God does bless those who honor Him. Our forefathers were disgruntled with the Catholic oppression and came here to establish a nation free of that oppression. It was formed from Christian idealogy and all those rights are a direct result of Christian doctrine. This is the great gentile nation, friend to Israel (God's chosen), and God has made us an example to the world, just as He did Israel. Our falling away from Him, as a nation, will be our demise. Some think that the USA is infallible and we have grown into a selfish, arrogant, ungrateful to God nation. Except for the faithful, I believe we would have already been destroyed. When the rapture comes, I fear the worst for our nation. The prophesies of the end times don't even mention our nation which gives me the impression that we will be either destroyed or overtaken by an enemy. In the meantime, we should do all we can to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Perhaps, we can turn this country around before it's too late. There is a sleeping giant that could do that........the complacent Christians.

interesting talking point but like most it's far from the truth. Fact six corporations own ninety percent of the media outlets in this country and none of them are liberal. Fact two if the media is liberal than why is it that the only financial stories they report are about business. You would expect a truly liberal media to report more about the abysmal state of labor in this country but except for a few token stories the media is largely silent on the billions of dollars of wages stolen from workers each year by their employers. It also rarely mentions how corporations have gamed the system to steal your tax dollars. There are plenty of stories about largely non-existent welfare moochers but almost nothing about billionaires that get tax subsidies or that the flying public subsidizes private jets. We are also still subsidizing oil at six times the rate of alternates yet all you heard about for months was solyndra. They left out the good news about alternate energy because it didn't fit the narrative that oil, coal and natural gas are good all other forms of energy are bad. So to those of you that think the media is too liberal how about some facts. Where is your proof and no blogs are not media. They are opinion and just because you don't like the truth doesn't make it a lie so go out and find some documented liberal media lies one last thing fox news is not a legitimate source. If you quote them you have already lost the argument.

As an American myself, it became a great nation in a short time because it let God control our thinking & beliefs, But now America has done away with God as a whole, But yet God will still use America in the near future, I am glad you mentioned that at one time it was a vast wilderness, God will sometime soon change the heart of America again to bring forth his word, Read revelation 12:6 And the woman(Israel) fled into the WILDERNESS, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there for 1260 days, This will take place the last half of Daniel's 70th week of prophecy concerning the 3 1/2 yrs. great tribulation.

I attribute it to the forming of the United Nations and America being as - like a rod to punish the nations. But the biggest spring board was the population explosion. You can't have large armies without a large number of people to man the armies.

I feel like getting a hearty round of TD's (LOL), sooo........
I believe God raised up this country for a time and a purpose--in the history of time itself, we've not been around long--and our rise to power was very fast. I will even go further to say that this nation was part of God's plan for the last days, which I believe is not that far off. Our fall from power will likely be faster than our rise to it. Regardless of what I see expressed on here everyday, America WAS founded on Christian principles, and the further we stray from those principles......the more we decline as a nation. Look around, it's easy to see. :))

I believe America became a great nation because our forefathers (most of them anyway) were Freemasons and kept religion out of our laws and our constitution.
They did make a part of the constitution that dealt with religion where it says in the first amendment that...
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
And that is all the religion that is mentioned in the constitution.

How short is short. America is a great nation there is no doubt it is 230 years old not to very old for the number one place in the world. There are many nations younger and older. I think it became great because there were wise leaders who formed our government and our constitution.

There have been many Christian theocracies. Several are currently busy killing others because of differences in religious belief. The Serbs are one example. An earlier example are the Catholics and Protestants in Ireland fighting each other.
The US is a secular nation. The Constitution, itself, says that no religious test shall be required for public service. Several of the 10 Commandments are deemed unconstitutional by the US, and most of the rest are not unlawful to break.
If anything, your argument points out how strong a country can be if it isn't weighed down with religious superstition.

Err...here is the Constitution: http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html
God is not mentioned in it at all. Where do you guys get this stuff?
Capitalism has driven production and technology. That is why we have grown so fast.
Added: Just to get it right...it wasn't in the Pledge until 1954, or on the money until 1957 so it wasn't there for most of that growth. God is only mentioned in the last verse of the National Anthem and frankly I have never even heard that part actually sung.
