Because tolerance, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
We have a saying in Spanish: Tell me what you boast of and I'll tell you what you lack. Those who do the most loud boasting about being tolerant and inclusive are the first to say "EXCEPT for (those guys over there who make me uncomfortable)."

Im pretty tolerent, I get intolerent at times, but for the most part I am pretty easy going.

Its impossible to be tolerent on here, people are begging for a slap in the face and most of the time, the opposing views are doing the exact same thing...sadly life can be the same way. I dont call it tolerence or intolerence, if you annoy me, I ignore you, pretty simple...if someone wants to be an idiot, Im not going to stand in their way. I might have something sarcastic to say about it though.

I become intolerant when I see intolerance, it's self defence otherwise the intolerant one's will walk all over me and I'm not about to make it easy for them, I leave tolerant views alone and have no quarrel with them.
Being tolerant doesn't mean you should be a pushover.

That is a very general question.

If someone is truly tolerant they would be willing to at least listen to another viewpoint.

I am pagan and I have other religious books in my home, bibles, korans, talmud etc.

I know many Christians who say they are tolerant and would never have any pagan literature in their home. They even freak out over Harry Potter, which is just a fanatasy novel.

It's the same reason why we will never have religion taught in schools. It would be nice to give our kids a better understanding of all the world's religions. But some would not appreciate their religion being presented in an objective manner on the same level with other faiths. Some would be VERY concerned if their kid learns about things from another religion and happen to LIKE it better than the one they were raised with. So unless its THEIR faith being given a one-sided preference and somehow presented as superior to other religions, they would not allow comparative religious instruction in schools.

I find in myself it is easier to be tolerant when there is an open dialog. I become intolerant when someone starts lying. It is hard to see if they are making valid points when the lies are obvious. I have actually learned things by being tricked by people.

Amen. Alleluia.

It's when we think we are tolerant that we probably should begin to look in the mirror again at our actions!

Self Examination is the key.
Praise be Jesus Christ now and forever.

I'm not intolerant of other views. I'm intolerant to intolerance.

Of course, it all depends on your definition of "intolerance". If you're referring to anyone being intolerant to your being a Christian (which I believe this post is a thinly veiled reference to, no?), I would have to say you're sadly mistaken. There is nobody in this country saying you can't be a Christian. You can not, however, expect everyone ELSE to be a Christian and then cry "Intolerance!" when they fail to comply.

That makes NO sense.

If you're a tolerant person then, by definition, you can't BE intolerant.

It's only the people who are CLAIMING to be tolerant who have this problem.

I do not tolerate willful ignorance, willful lies nor hatred of any sort. If other views are presented in those manners, they either get it with both barrels or I just skip the question.

So, call me intolerant.

And regarding stupid questioners, I leave them in their bliss. They're not capable of understanding the answers they receive.

Well said - and of course true - all these people who worship at the altar of "tolerance" are actually quite limited in their tolerance.

Tolerant of anything and everything - except those who disagree with them!
