EDIT: onegaishimasu...he's an old man who's always been nice to me. he's worked with the company for 44 years, and forwards the occasional annoying email. he doesn't preach or judge, and i truly like him. he's a nice guy. you see in society, there are these things called manners...and its a way of showing people you respect them....so learn some.

this is what i sent back
Its been quite amazing to see people get worked up about these books in recent weeks. I've not read them, but I plan to with my kids. I had never once heard of them, but now a lot of people are in a stir. The more people say "don't read this" the more people will. Truth be told, my thoughts about the "anti-religion" theme to the series is that it is only secondary, and really the books are just about an amazing adventure according to all the reviews. If parents are so concerned with their kids becoming atheist after reading or watching the movie, then maybe they should be more apt to discuss the difference between their reality and fiction with their kids. I daresay you didn't change your religion after watching the Wizard of Oz or Harry Potter.

Well, I usually just delete chain emails and don't say anything, but...
You could say you and your family like to examine all ideas so then your kids will be better able to judge truth from lies -- and let the sender interpret that as they wish!

Just let it go. He has good intentions and obviously cares about you or he wouldn't bother. Count it a blessing that he cares and focus on that. Sincere friends are a treasure, whether we agree with their religion, politics, or whatever. Agree to disagree in your mind and continue to honor him and respect him as a person. I went through this one time in an office in my younger days and to this day I regret being honest with the man and telling him to please quit calling me so much in the office(we didn't have e-mails back then). He was terribly wounded in his spirit and it ruined our relationship. I had no idea how he valued our friendship. Now, I'm on the other side of age and I can appreciate the value of my younger friends. Age does have it's value, but we seldom realize it or value it when we are young. Is your annoyance with the e-mails as important as this older person's friendship with you. At least with an e-mail, you can just delete. I would say "thank you" if you see him and he mentions it, otherwise do nothing. Sometimes we have to just be kind rather than demand comfort at every hand. The loss to you may be a relief, but to him it may be much much more. If you really like this person, why not just do the kind thing?

The subtle insertion of an idea is the best way to influence the young reader, and I wouldn't shear this with children. I believe it is intended to influence young minds to be negative about faith.
Having said that, do what my sister did recently with me. She is a wild eyed democrat, of the most liberal sort, and I have made a point of sending her very conservative Republican oriented Emails. She Emailed me back telling me that her Computer couldn't process all the Emails I was sending her, and kept crashing, and would I please just send her the occasional personal Email. I got the message.

Just erase the email and tell them that by sending emails like that they are making people just want to go see it more. I read all the books before the movie even came out and if someone told me not to see the movie i would just say shut the hell up. And it shouldn't matter to you whether or not u sound bitchy because they are the one that sent you the message.

just dont' reply. If the sender is someone you know in person and they say something face to face askign fi you got their email, you say yes and they ask what you thought you just say you read it but chose to make your own descision. Just be polite. You have no control over how the person reacts. Just as they have no control over what you do. You just need to be polite and thank them for their input.

I've gotten those too.
I have no responded to any of them. Two of the folks who sent me "warnings" are good friends, but I just refuse to discuss certain things with them. We try to follow a "agree to disagree" policy on topics that we don't see eye to eye on.

Tell them that for every email sent about not going to see this movie, they are selling 10 more tickets.
Christians are going to make this movie a HUGE success by attempting to boycott it.

" Thanx, for the advice *hitler*. But my kids really want to go see this. So we are going."
You like a person who tells other people what to do?? Get a backbone and tell them to f*ck off. No offense, I just don't get the point in namby pambying about with people (that's why I don't have any kids ;D)
make me...I'm not gonna pander to someone whether they are 66 or whatever, I'm just telling you what I would do if i got that mail....even if ma mum sent it I'd tell her to f*ck off.
