Of letting the ground lie dormant for one year, we would now have less desert and ground area, where nothing can be cultivated.

Yes, of course we would. Fertilizers aren't an improvement. They kill people by getting in the groundwater.

It's still done this way in Israel. By the way, I'm pretty sure this is the dormant year.

But perhaps the purpose is to take one year in seven off. Wouldn't it be fun to plan our lives so that one year in seven we didn't have to work?

Most farmers I know would agree that letting the ground lie for a year does improve crop yield. Whether or not it would have meant there was less desert I'm not sure.

Not sure about where you are talking about but in the Midwest, US, farmers do rotate a crop in a field every year or leave a field dormant for a year. I think it does help the soil and that is why they do it. Do you know wher in the bible it says this...I would like to rad it. Thanks!

I am answering simply because I am with you and with Southern Comfort. I cannot add more than that.

Thank you. Letting ground lie dorman for one year is always best anyway.

I admire your faith and strength and conviction a lot. I mistakenly hit the wrong best answer earlier.

Thousands of years mind you would definitely made a difference. See how fast we have messed up the environment just since machinery and fossil fuel has been in use. Relatively a short time.

We'd have less desert if people (such as Biblical patriarchs) weren't raising goats. They pull up grass by the roots, contributing to erosion and desertification.

Yes they do it in Israel and it gives the land a chance to rest and revitalize. God's advice is always the best and one year off too. Nice.

No we have better methods of agriculture using cover crops, fertilizers and such. Deserts are caused by weather and like of irrigation.
