As already mentioned. The main reasons are:
1. Health
2. Moral
3. Environment
I eat vegan because of all three.
1. Anyone who doesn't get all their food groups from a vegan diet is simply not informed to all the options available. Simply avoiding animal products will not ensure optimal health. Like everyone, vegans should eat a balanced diet. Protein, Vitamins B12 and D, omega-3 fats, calcium, and iodine are important.
Here are some of the health benefits of a vegan diet:
-weight loss
-lower cholesterol and blood pressure
-less use of medication
-avoiding surgery and cancer
-feeling more energized
-looking great
2. Unless your meat/dairy is certified organic, it pretty much guaranteed to come from a factory farm. Factory farming is one of the most corrupt industries in America who's primary means of survival is keeping the masses ignorant. Go to http://www.meatrix.com/ for an eye opening take on what you're eating. Then go to YouTube and search "factory farming" for some real footage.
3. Consider these environmental facts on meat production:
-A meat-based diet requires 7 times more land than a plant-based diet.
-70% of the cereal crop produced in U.S./Canada is used as feed for animals. It's simply an inefficient way to get food. For example, in 1993, US farm animals were fed 192.7 million tonnes of feed concentrates, the bulk of it corn, in order to produce 31.2 million tonnes of carcass meat, making for a ratio of 6.2 to 1
-Is responsible for 18 percent of human induced greenhouse gas emissions

1.. it's cheaper for me. 2. it's healthier for me,
3. It less animals are eaten thereby saving some animals lifes hopefully! I'm not saying it's for everyone but Vegetarianism is right for me!
When I can find a way to be Vegan without it costing too much then I might go that far!
Oh Vegetarians don't forget to think about the soaps you use.. I know you don't eat soap but many contain lard including dish detergent cause grease can sometimes cut grease if it's done right! if the bottles say pure detergent it's safe.
Soap bars you'll have to read the ingredients list!

Some people are vegetarian because they love animals. Others, because they hate plants. ;-)
Just kidding. I see three main categories: health, ethical, and economic.
Most of them are interrelated on some level or another.
Under the ethical category are sub-categories:
- treatment of animals
- treatment of people
- treatment of the environment
- religious convictions
Fast Food Nation does a good job going over this. Keep in mind, however, that not ALL meat farmers produce their meat factory-style.

Honestly I became one because I don't want my children to eat meat. So when I give birth and begin nursing them I won't be passing that(steroids and everything else that goes into meat) into their little systems. I don't have anything against eating meat or the people who do. I just decided that a meat free diet would make me healthy by keeping me out of McDonalds and forcing me to make healthier choices, like fruits vs. cookies. It also gives me the opportunity to explore other choices in my diet. I usually make the same chicken or beef dish or order the same chicken or beef dish at a restaurant. It helps me to discover what I can do with fruits and vegs, and also since I stopped eating meat(only six weeks ago, but I'll make it I will!) I have had the most amazing levels of energy and my skin is brighter. Even my attitude has changed and I WANT to make the effort to be healthy. So you could say I became a vegetarian to change my life.

The oceans, rivers, and lakes are too polluted to eat the fish. The mass produced red meats and poultry are so pumped full of hormones and carcinogens I couldn't imagine putting any of it into my mouth. On any big farm the animals are so mistreated and the actual meat is so mishandled after slaughtered it is disgusting.
Besides that, my main reason is that I don't want an animal to die simply for me to eat it. I personally think it is a pretty selfish act. There are definite levels of conciousness in the living world and plants do not have the level of awareness of animals. I do not have to eat animals so I don't. Pretty simple.
I don't choose for others though. Everyone makes their own decisions.

The reason I became vegetarian is that meat no longer seemed like food.. it just seemed like dead bodies. I just couldn't chew it anymore.

Personally i find meat repulsive. Its a big slab of muscle vein fat and blood that was once living. even the smell is sick. There is also evidence of unhealthy hormones and such given to the animals for growth purposes that poisons our bodies, and with cows the milk as well. There are also moral issues. And, its not difficult at all to lead a veg. lifestyle nowadays, with plenty of organics and alternatives.

Animals are treated inhumanely on factory farms.
Meat is not really good for you.
They do not like meat or the taste of it.
Me, well, because of all the reasons.
