Lets say that Bob lived in a country where his government wouldn't allow him to believe in god and read the bible. Would he go to hell?
And then Suzy had no idea that there was such a thing as god and the bible her whole life because she lived in a villiage or something where no one around her knew about it and so she never had the opportunity to believe in god. Would she go to hell too?
And then there is Jack who lives in a country where everyone believed in a religion that didn't include god, what happens to him?
And then there is a child named Carol whose entire family has a certain religion and if she tries to branch out on her knowledge of religions she gets in trouble, so her parents made the decision for her and she dies prematurely so she never made it to 18 to decided what she wanted to believe in.
None of these people believed in god, but it wasn't their faults, what happens?

Remember, God is just. Everything He does is based on His love as well as justice.

Paul mentions this issue in his letter to the Roman church. "Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them." (Romans 3:14-15)

God has not left Himself without a witness, either. God has made Himself clearly known (See Romans 1). People just suppress the truth. When someone acts on the truth, God gives them even more light. Here's one example of this:

During the days of the Soviet Union, Irina Ratushinskaya was a precocious 10 year old girl. She lived in Odessa. She was having to listen to her teacher go through a mandatory atheism class. She thought to herself, "My parents told me once or twice that there was no such things as ghosts or monsters. That was it. But the State tells me every week that there is no God. He must be very powerful if they are so afraid of Him."

As Irina grew up, she was given more truth, until one day she was actually able to get her hands on a Bible, written in an ancient Slavic script. She learned that language so that she could read it. She discovered that she believed the truth, and was a Christian, by God's incomparable grace, in the middle of the officially atheistic Soviet Union.

Bob should have rebelled against the government just as many people have in the past, and probably continued on worshiping God no matter what the consequences are. No matter if this meant death, If Bob really believes, he would know that this life will pass, and God will award him for being a faithful servant.

There are things that are not revealed to us as humans, because we wouldn't understand them, (such as Suzie's story)
But there is a passage in the Bible (In Romans 2: 12-16) that states that people like Suzie, if unaware of a God, will be judged by their deeds. And that conscience is like God's law written in the Human heart!

Then again in Jack's story, if aware of God and the Bible, then he should follow Bob's example, and if he wasn't aware of ANYTHING besides his religion, then he should follow Suzie's example, and just be a good person in general.

And as to little Carol's example, she's saved as is stated in the Bible, all children are saved no matter what, until they have the maturity of deciding what's wrong or right, and I don't mean, sharing and caring, I mean sinning against God, and actually KNOWING what is God and why he's there. After that "age" or time is reached, Carol should follow Bob's example and rebel by worshiping the one true God, and following the Bible.

THIS, IS WHAT HAPPENS.

That is why the God of the Bible had Acts 24:15 point out there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous. These are of course, not the willfully unrighteous. Those have already sealed their fate. The unrighteous here are those you are talking about, who never got a chance to choose to serve the real God of the Bible.

---There are principles & facts that we know God is not responsible for the evil going forth on the earth today: (James 1:13) “13 When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.” --The context of Is. 45 is on Babylon, who went, far beyond the discipline upon Israel as he stated *** si p. 121 par. 25 Bible Book Number 23—Isaiah *** 25 Vengeance upon Babylon (45:1–48:22). For the sake of Israel, Jehovah names Cyrus to vanquish Babylon. Men will be made to know that Jehovah alone is God, the Creator of the heavens, the earth, and man upon it. He mocks Babylon’s gods Bel and Nebo, for only He can tell the finale from the beginning. --The virgin daughter of Babylon is to sit in the dust, dethroned and naked, and the multitude of her counselors will be burned up like stubble. Jehovah tells the ‘iron-necked, copper-headed’ Israelite idol worshipers that they could have peace, righteousness, and prosperity by listening to him, but ‘there is no peace for the wicked ones.’—48:4, 22. The thrust of God's intervention is upon those ruining the earth today, to the full thrust by bringing on Armageddon (Revelation 11:18)..... “18 But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, , and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”” So then when God brings on Armageddon there is no question of who is responsible: (Job 38:22-23) “22 Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow, Or do you see even the storehouses of the hail, 23 Which I have kept back for the time of distress, For the day of fight and war?” Thus whatever weather condition we have experienced , the author of such experience is not God , otherwise Jesus would have said otherwise. Christ Jesus words should settle any disposition of God, please note (Mark 10:17-18) “17 And as he was going out on his way, a certain man ran up and fell upon his knees before him and put the question to him: “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit everlasting life?” 18 Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.” Christ was no coward to hold back a frank answer that God is actually a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde person. There is no dialogue of Christ & Jehovah to show other than goodness is a main quality of God & his Son!

For Bob, there is a difference between public and private spaces and you are wrong in assuming he does not believe in God just because he does not do so publicly. ;)

If you believe in God, you should believe in a forgiving God. From what I get from your fictional descriptions you do not include any "sins" committed or anything along those lines. So technically speaking, neither Bob, nor Suzy, Jack or Carol is in grave danger. ;)

I've been around a lot of christians and they said "god" will make sure that He will be known to them they just have to watch for signs..like in dreams. But still if they don't catch the signs they go to hell.
And the one where someone forced you to believe is crap, no one can read your mind..she still could have believed. ANYWAY just believe what you want to believe in, follow what your heart wants...whatever that is then THAT is the right path for you. Nothing should pain your heart, although things do.

The Bibles says that "those who hear My words but do not obey will be damned". I expect if you have no choice in the matter, you'll go to Heaven. If God sends people to Hell because they honestly don't see why they need to profess Christianity or because they do not know or have not been taught about Christianity, period, then my whole life has been pointless.

I asked my (very religious) grandparents this question, and they basically said that this day in age, with modern technology the way it is, there is no excuse for anybody in the world to have not heard of god and Jesus, and no excuse for Christians not to have spread the word, even to people who live deep in the jungles of Africa. According to my grandparents, those people would go to hell, and it would basically be the fault of the Christians because they didn't get there in time to save them. This entire conversation scared the crap out of me, let me tell you. Not because I am worried about the "souls" of the Maori tribesmen, but because my own flesh and blood actually believe something like this.

That is why we have purgatory. I believe only the true evils, Hitler, Saddam Hussein, George W. Bush, will go to hell immediately. Everyone who wasn't close to God throughout their earthly life, or never knew of Christianity, but never committed any big sins and did not feel sorry after wards, goes there. There, they can prepare for heaven, and hopefully become closer to God once they know of His existence.

They all have the chance to go to Heaven. The bible specifies that if they have no access or never have known about God or had a bible...they are not held at fault. We all can go to Heaven when Jesus returns if we believe in Him up to that very last moment. The ones that have gone before will also be judged then and have the same opportunity. When Jesus knocks.....let Him in. Believe on His name and you shall live! +
