Okay, those that have/had breast cancer, which of the 18 risks shown here - http://www.newstarget.com/022157.html - did you expose yourself to? Please elaborate on amount and frequency. I'm looking for causes to breast cancer in particular. Or, if you have another good reason why you think you may have gotten it, please share. Also, how did you find out you had the cancer and how did you try to treat it?

Thanks for the add'l details lola. I guess that's why we don't want biopsies! They only aggravate the tissues in the tumor and expose them to air. I've also heard the biopsies cause the cancer to grow at an even faster rate!

Panda - please read up on T. Colin Campbell's work in the site/book The Cancer Study. It is about behaviors in over 100 villages in China where children develop cancer and disease because of their environment and what they ingest. There's no arguing with Campell's work. Please read up on cause and effect and I hope you'll join the alternative movement. I can see at least 3 of the reasons that ancient people could of committed in the list of 18, and that's beside the most important one - diet!

Thank you for the responses. I cannot believe the number of women saying they have bc and eat this well! What is up with that? I'm convinced there has to be a CAUSE! According to Dr. Campbell's findings anyway. There has to be a reason a third of the women and half the men in the US get cancer when it's much less in other areas of the world!

Everyone - please see my post in the "what causes breast cancer" thread. I quote Guyton and Hall's medical text which my wife just happens to have. The third factor that causes cancer is food:
"3. Physical irritants also can lead to cancer, such as continued abrasion of the linings of the intestinal tract by some types of food. The damage to the tissues leads to rapid mitotic replacement of the cells. The more rapid the mitosis, the greater the chance for mutation."
It's now undeniable. We know 5 things from THE source that cause cancer. Irradiation (x-rays, etc.), chemical exposure, food, hereditary, and viruses.

I belong to a young women's BC support group and can tell you there are SEVERAL members who have been organic veg's their ENTIRE lives (i.e. since birth--parents fed them that way) and they still have BC. .. it's just not that easy.
Meanwhile, here's what I was exposed to:
Smoking cigarettes-HELL NO
Mammography radiation - see articles on mammograms--UGH no b/c dumb a$$ doc told me to get genetic testing before a mamo? UH huh? $3000 test vs $300 test and many women with BC don't have BRCA1, 2 or CHK2 gene mutations. . . DUH
Chemotherapy and radiation--UH, well, not until I got dx'd with BC. ..
Perfumes and fragrance products--Sure. I am a girl.
Cosmetics and personal care products - see articles on personal care products--yes, but not a lot with parabens. Oddly, those just haven't been my faves. Before I even knew about that factor
Home cleaning products, including laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc.--well yeah.
Drinking non-organic milk or eating non-organic dairy products--I grew up in the 70's/80's so yeah.
Hydrogenated oils and trans fatty acids - See Poison In the Food or articles on hydrogenated oils--Yes. But was eating healthfully when I got dx'd and my tumor started growing quickly.
Plastic food containers - includes plastic lining inside food cans-Yep
Sodium nitrite - found in most processed meats, see articles on sodium nitrite--some. NOt a huge fan of too many processed meats.
Pesticides, PCBs, chlorine and other chemicals--swam like a fish as a kid so sure.
Acrylamides (formed during high-heat food processing such as frying)--Not many. My mom never liked fried stuff too much and I'm not a huge fan either.
Watching television / lack of exercise--Yes. But JAMA says this really supresses recurrence, lowers risk some. . . but contends that they actually promote more b/c it's heart healthy more than cancer risk prevention but it's good advice. . .
Severe emotional distress or relationship stress--No.
Refined sugars / refined grains--See answ re: when I grew up.
Dry cleaning chemicals--Yes but pretty minimal. More as an adult
Hair color chemicals--yep
Nail polish remover--some

My mother had breast cancer, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer two years before me. So, I think in my case it was hereditary. I found a lump while visiting my daughter. I had a mammogram and ultrasound. I had a lumpectomy which was unable to get all the cancer and a week later I had a mastecomy, followed by chemotherapy. This was in 2000. Now, I have just finished a round of radiation for stage 4 breast cancer that moved to my neck. I had a CT scan and PET scan and I am waiting to hear if I need to do anything more at this time. I was told that it was chronic now and will come back.

Please read the History of Cancer. The first reports of breast cancer occured in 1600 BC and have been found in human mummified remains. Which of the 18 risks shown caused ancient human beings to have cancer?
The History of Cancer
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_6x_the_history_of_cancer_72.asp
"Cancer has afflicted humans throughout recorded history. It is no surprise that from the dawn of history doctors have written about cancer. Some of the earliest evidence of cancer is found among fossilized bone tumors, human mummies in ancient Egypt, and ancient manuscripts. Bone remains of mummies have revealed growths suggestive of the bone cancer, osteosarcoma. In other cases, bony skull destruction as seen in cancer of the head and neck has been found.
Our oldest description of cancer (although the term cancer was not used) was discovered in Egypt and dates back to approximately 1600 B.C. The Edwin Smith Papyrus, or writing, describes 8 cases of tumors or ulcers of the breast that were treated by cauterization, with a tool called "the fire drill." The writing says about the disease, "There is no treatment."

I truly believe breast cancer is caused by many chemicals we are exposed to in our environment. The CDC needs to focus on the true cause of this disease instead of cures. Chemicals found in breast cancer tissue are not that difficult to identify. THIS IS WHERE ALL THE MONEY SHOULD BE GOING AND NOT ON CURES!

Hon I have never had breast cancer. but we all have cancer cells in our body's. Some just become active where other stay dormant. I really don't know what makes them active. i have a daughter with cancer right now. she had it before, and got it back again when she had surgery for a hernia. i think if it is active and the air hits it it spreads faster. I asked my doctor if there was any Truth to the theory and she said it was true. I am not familiar with a lot of cancers but, like I said before we need to rely on the Good Lord for healing. All their prayers we can get. I am so thankful for all the prayers for my daughter. If you need prayers. Let me know I will be glad to pray for anyone that needs them. i know the Lord answers our prayers. God Bless.

Steve I think you really are going to have to accept that breast cancer and diet are not as closely linked as you think. Implying that women who've had cancer are lying about their diets is really offensive. 'I cannot believe the number of women saying they have bc and eat this well!' - have you any idea how patronising and offensive this sounds, especially addressed to women who have or have had cancer?
I know you like to imagine that those women who get breast cancer are lazy, obese people pushing shopping trolleys packed full with lard, cream donuts and paraben-loaded cosmetics but this is not the reality.
Your posts so far show that you actually know very little about cancer and nothing about breast cancer. You repeatedly refer us to random websites that appear to confirm your existing prejudices; you recommended that women with bc should follow the example of Lorraine Day, and when challenged admitted you knew nothing about her.
For goodness sake do some actual research before you come on to a cancer forum telling seriously ill people how to cure cancer.
