for years i hav consumed indian sweets eith silver foil
but recently told that some animal bladder lining is also used
in making the foil
can u clarify this

Actually, the foil is real silver that is beaten so that it comes out real thin, the irony is that it is beaten inbetween animal meat/organs. the organs prevent it from sticking together and gives it the evenness.
sorry to say, it is true. so in fact "vegetarian sweets" are not really veg at all. :(

At least some of the time, it is made using some kind of animal intestines.

There doesn't seem to be any way of telling if they used that or not.

My wife is Indian. Her sister says she has seen it made and they didn't use any kind of animal product, other people say differently. My mother in law says varak is non-veg, and so does their spiritual leader. I don't think there's any way of knowing for sure unless you know who made it.

The rollers used to beat the foil are coated with a lubricant. This can be either animal fat (beef tallow or lard) or petroleum based lubricant.

Chandi Varak is NOT vegetarian to the best of my knowledge. If you have ever seen it made . . .you would likely not eat it again. I know I ate it until I witnessed it being made.
