If Heaven exists, do you earn the privilege to go there? Or is it random chance? Or is it a gift from God? Or is it somethingelse?

Refer to my profile on my religious affiliation before you say anything about it; otherwise, don't answer the questions.

BTW, I am rating the different answers. Thumbs down if they don't answer the question; thumbs up if they do. I like the answers, but the only ones I'm really seeing answering my questions are the Christians (no matter what their affiliation). What's up with the rest of you?

I don't know for SURE that I will go to heaven. Only God decides that. I trust and have faith that I will go to heaven. It is really all a mystery. But the bible does say that it is our CHOICE. I believe in the bible through faith that we have a choice to make. I don't believe in religion but rather a relationship w/ God the father and Jesus. I am a born again/non-denominational christian. I go to a non denominational church that is not hung up on legalism, rules, regulations or a certain way to worship God. Again, it all comes down to our CHOICE. We make that call - no one else - not even God/Jesus. It says in the bible: (please read as it is relevant to my answer)

John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said to him, truly, truly I say to you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus says to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit (YOUR CHOICE), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said to you, you must be born again. 8 The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound thereof, but can not tell where it comes from, and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore CHOOSE life, that you may live, you and your seed ------Deut. 30:19

but as for me and my house (CHOICE), we will serve the Lord..." - Joshua 24: 14-15

John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son (YOUR CHOICE) hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Mystique? Do you know that Paul described much of the Gospel as a mystery? How do you get to heaven? simple it can not be earned, it's not random chance, and 'somethingelse' wont do it either. You, I, everyone, will get to heaven the same way, by the grace of God. We do not deserve to go, we can not be 'good enough ' to go, its not a matter of who we are, where we live, what we do for a living, it is very simply do we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he came to pay the debt of sin that we all owed, and that not only did he pay that debt, death, ( the penalty for sin is death) but on the third day he rose from the grave and is now on the thrown with God.

I haven't looked at your profile, so I don't know what your religious affiliation is, because it doesn't matter to me. To each his own. Everyone who is not evil has a "right" to go to heaven. It's that simple, that's what I truely believe. It doesn't matter if you don't believe in God or if you have a different religion than me. Whatever your idea of "heaven" is, that's where you'll go when you die, providing you're not an evil soul. Evil gets banished into the darkness, and sending a soul into the darkness is not taken as flippantly as you often hear (for example, you didn't go to church every Sunday, or you had affair or you had premarital sex). It's taken extremely seriously.

how do I know this? Or that I'll be going to heaven? Because my angels tell me.

Yes, Yahweh does not leave any doubt as to what he expects of those who want eternal life.

Revelation 22:12-16—
12 And behold, I come quickly, and
My Reward is with Me, to give every
man according as his work will be.
13 I am the First and the Last, the
Beginning and the End.

14 Blessed are those who keep His
Laws, THAT THEY MAY HAVE RIGHT to the
Tree of Life, and may ENTER in through
the gates into the city.

15 For outside are dogs, and sorcerers,
and whore-mongers, and murderers,
and worshipers of gods (elohim)
and everyone who professes to love,
YET PRACTICE BREAKING THE LAWS.

16 I, Yahshua, have sent My Malak
to testify to you these things in the
congregations of The House of Yahweh.
I am the Root and the Offspring
of David, and the Bright and Morning
Star.

Any other response not from the Holy Scriptures is pure deception Sir.

http://www.christianity.com/Christian%20Foundations/Becoming%20a%20Christian/11531785/ - "How do I know I'm saved?"

http://www.christianity.com/11527983/ -" What is Assurance?"; his infallible assurance, which believers may attain unto as to their own personal salvation, is founded on the truth of the promises (Hebrews 6:18), on the inward evidence of Christian graces, and on the testimony of the Spirit of adoption (Romans 8:16). That such a certainty may be attained appears from the testimony of Scripture (Romans 8:16; 1 John 2:3; 3:14), from the command to seek after it (Hebrews 6:11; 2Pet 1:10), and from the fact that it has been attained (2 Timothy 1:12; 4:7,8; 1 John 2:3; 4:16).

This full assurance is not of the essence of saving faith. It is the result of faith, and posterior to it in the order of nature, and so frequently also in the order of time."

No one's going to Heaven but 144,000 Israelites. The rest are going to New Jerusalem, depicted in Revelations 21.

I don't think you earn a ticket to heaven, it's given as God's gift to us for believing and following his teachings and living as he wants us.

We are his children, and I know when my kids GLADLY follow the rules, I reward them for understanding and obeying.

It is a gift. Who expects anyone to "earn" a gift, but a false religion? The gift does have to be "received or accepted".

POSITIVE! Can't earn it----it is totally a gift from God. Jesus died for my sins and I am mindful of that each and every day.

Yes, by accepting Jesus as your savior and believing that God is true. Nothing random about that.
