desi it is an Arabic food.

Mark: no no no, it is totally different from mashe batenjan. that one is cooked with tomato soup and filled with rice. This one is filled with garlic, walnut, red pepper and preserved in olive oil. I think you know it but you gave the wrong name.

It looks like a stuffed eggplant dish: Imam Biyaldi (Turkish) or Nigvziani badrijani (Georgian) also there's also Sheik Babani (Kurdish).

Eggplant stuffed with rice? I've had it and it tastes sour inside but I don't know what they use in it to make it sour. Lemon? Sumac?

kimchee! more specifically, baby Asian eggplant kimchee.

It's pickled baby eggplants and a Korean speciality.

**I am way off! I had a late night, but never would have guessed Arabic.
