Baptism of the Holy Ghost does, Now concerning the thief on the cross, first you have to understand that Grace age has not yet begun, Because Jesus first must die, & be buried, & ressurrected, The Bible says if Christ be not raised, we are still in our sins, So the thief on the cross was saved, by realizing who Jesus Christ was, as The Apostles was also saved, By believing in Jesus, Did you know that the Apostles did not have complete salvation untill the day of Pentacost, Jesus told Peter, when you are converted, strenghten thy brothers.

I agree totally with what the person above me said!!...I however don't agree with the ones who said that Jesus only saves. You cannot be saved waiting on Jesus. You have to take the initiative yourself...Jesus is waiting on you!! He wants you to make that first move...when you know that he is tugging at your heart, you can't ignore it. Being baptized is one step. Salvation is a process, first you have to except that God is, and Was, and Is To Come. Then you have to reason with yourself and don't let the devil bind you no more. Then comes that step...being baptized "In the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost." Then after you do this God promised that you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. That is not all though, you can't do all of this and the go to the club on Saturday and then be all Holy on Sunday!!! You have to live the life that Christ wants you to live!!! If you don't Believe me turn to Acts the 2nd chapter in your bible!!

Water baptism cannot save, and it is not required for salvation. Only cults teach either of these.
According to God in His Word, the only way to be saved is to believe that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again.

No.. Jesus Christ only saves. But those who are saved should be baptised in water to show that we die in sin. It is a symbol to proclaim to the church and to the world that you claim the death of you and you will be resurrected while Jesus comes.
When we receive Jesus as personal saviour, you are dead and Christ lives in you. During baptism, the dead you is buried in water with Christ and the risen body comes up.
It is a wonderful experience. If you have not taken that baptism, what you r waiting for.. Hurry up. It is the time.

You answered your own question. Ephesians 2:8,9 " For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast ". The thief was saved by Jesus on the cross

Baptism is just an outward confession of an inward faith and does not hold the power of salvation, only Christ has that.

No, baptism doesn't "save" us eternally. Baptism is a work of obedience, and eternal salvation is by grace alone, not of works lest any man should boast; Eph 2:9.
Romans 5:19, "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the OBEDIENCE OF ONE SHALL MANY be made righteous"; the "one" is Jesus. Most people believe by the obedience of one (himself) shall the same one be made righteous, but this belief is contrary to God's word, and gives man the glory. Baptism is an act of obedience by the SAVED believer, but it isn't required for eternal salvation, because only one man's act of obedience brought salvation, and that man is the Word made flesh, Jesus. Baptism is the symbol for what does save us; the resurrection of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter 3:21, "The LIKE FIGURE whereunto baptism doth also now save us...by the resurrection of Jesus Christ". All these things are a figure or shadow of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus.
Eternal salvation is either by grace ALONE & not of works of obedience lest any man should boast, or of works ALONE; you can't have ETERNAL salvation both ways. Every time the words save, saved, salvation, etc. are mentioned in God's word, it isn't referring to ETERNAL salvation. When we sin against our natural parent, we are not SAVED from that parent's chastening rod, and the same is true for our Heavenly parent. Romans 1:20, tells us that we can "clearly" see the spiritual/invisible things of God by observing His creation; and we don't stop being our natural parents child, when we sin against that parent. An example of "saved" not referring to eternal salvation can be found in Romans 10:1-4:
1) "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be SAVED".
2) "For I bear them record that they have a zeal OF God, but not according to KNOWLEDGE".
3) "For they being IGNORANT of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their OWN righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God".
4) "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth".
Does a child of a natural parent stop being that parent's child because of ignorance? What did Paul desire Israel to be "saved" from here? From their lack of knowledge of God's righteousness, and depending upon their OWN righteousness for eternal salvation. He wasn't desiring them to be saved to eternal life, because look what is written concerning Israel's eternal salvation in the next chapter, Romans 11:26, "And so ALL ISRAEL SHALL BE SAVED: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob", not by their "own righteousness", but by the "Deliverer's" righteousness, Jesus Christ's.
