I am considering doing this because I keep getting fines for him not going to school and I am fed up. My hubby is a softy, so I am the one who is doing all the disciplining, guess that makes me the mean stepmom, even though my intent was to teach him accountability and responsibility. He just got off of probabtion for something he did when he lived with his mom, and he would not respect or obey her either, so she sent him to live with us. He has made the comment to others that he does not respect me, even though I have done everything possible to make the transition as easy as I could for him. Any ideas or suggestions?

Send him to boarding school. Then he'll have no choice. It may be more expensive, but it'll teach him a lesson.
How did his real mom send him to live with you? If that makes you a foster parent or something like that, see if you can get the organization (government usually) to help pay for it.

i pulled my son out of school at 17 yr old. i was at the school more than he was and was practically on a first name basis with the dean. ther was no point in him being enrolled if he wasn't going to attend or do stupid things when he did. you can't do it though. his dad has to sign him out though. his dad has to do it as you are his step mom. good luck with this.
