My cat is always cute and caring. But i got horribly sick not too long ago, and realized she was extra caring, and was always watching over me. She never sleeps with me, because i toss and turn too much at night, but when i was feeling sick, she would sleep on top of me, or next to me, kiss me and then sleep close to me.

I know she watches my behavior, but is there anything else besides behavior? such as instinct?

How exactly do they know when your sick?

I dont know what it is exactly but I understand what you mean. Whenever I used to be upset or crying my cat would come and sit nearby or lay on the end of my bed (he wasnt the most affectionate creature so these things were quite sweet).

I guess they just have an instinct for it. Ever been in a room where a cat suddenly looks at something thats not even there? Its kinda creepy, almost as if they can see things we cant..

I think they are just more aware than people are. My cat was the same when I was sick. She would lie on the bed pressed against me for hours, when she would normally have been out in the garden stalking birds and mice.
Remember there are dogs who are given to people who have epilepsy because the dogs can sense when a fit is coming and push the person to a safe place or the ground so that they do not fit and fall and injure themselves.
As for cats seeing what is "not there", I used to think that, until I noticed that the cat WAS looking at something, a tiny little midge that I couldn't see until I looked closely where she was looking. Now I always check, and there is always something there, however small. Not so spooky after all!

It's an instinct. You know how you can always tell when something's wrong with your kids, even though they're acting fine? Same thing. :). I would explain it more, but someone is walking up the steps to get their cat a check-up so I gotta run.

They pick up on how you're feeling by the way you act. You may not think you're acting different, but you are. It also has to do with body language in a sense. Just like how some humans can pick up on those things. They're just very intuitive, and clearly very smart!..Dogs do it too sometimes, but cats do it mainly.

You may smell different when you're sick, or the cat will pick up on subtle changes in your behavior. I know that when I have a migraine, my cat will either lie at the foot of my bed, facing away (to take on all comers?) or will do her usual cuddling with me.

That's so sweet. It's just one of the gifts God has given us. My cat does it too. Remember this if she doesn't like someone you bring around her and vice versa. Cats know what's up. They have great internal feelers.

i had a cat who used to do that..he'd sleep on my chest to help me breathe better when i would get pneumonia when i was younger... he also would bring me dead mice...

i think it's just a part of their animal instincts.. and they are looking after their family..
