so in media, and ms has jsut asked that question , anyone have an answer??

It costs about the same as it does for everyone else ... they may get some preferential rates eg. for leaflet printing and distribution may be performed 'for free'... however mainstream media (TV, Radio, Papers, Magazines etc) are likely to charge 'as normal' ..

So, essentially, as much or as little as they choose ..

As the other 2 answers suggest rates for advertising vary no matter what the organisation is. If charities are looking for legacies then quite often legal publishers provide free 'directory style' entries for charities in their publications for probate lawyers. You may also find websites for the legal profession also carry a charities appeals page/section where charities can obtain free marketing.

To add to what Steve says, they don't pay VAT on advertising - about the only VAT relief charities get.
