Maybe they are just shy, not 'socially trained', they may not be used to shaking hands and have a mild personality, they may not like close contact, thier hands might be sweaty, they might be hygenic freaks who don't like to touch hands for fear of germs and so on.
Whilst it seems the perception is so, you should use other characteristics to base whether you can trust them or not. It is unfair to judge their integrity with just that brief experience with them.

I'm in Sales and the defining moment on genuineness is the handshake. Too firm, dominating, too weak, not likely to follow through on their word. In days gone by, the handshake was what you placed your trust in. It was equal to a man's word.
On the other hand, a woman with a firm handshake was a feminist and wasn't being genuine. A woman's handshake was always to be subtle and feminine. A man shaking a woman's hand was to be strong but gentle, to imply being a gentleman and stability.
So much can be interpreted by the handshake. Old fashioned? Sure! But still important in setting an image. The unspoken word/body language.

Its not really a good way to measure the trust, maybe back in the day...but now a days the guy could easily just be shy and lacking self confidence. That doesn't necessarily mean that they can't be trusted though. After all some of the 'firmest' hand shakes you will get are from the "thug" type, you know the guys that do the handshake and pull u in...u know what i mean...

A weak handshake; eeek!! I always make a point of giving good 'shake', particularly in the work environment. It says strong, confident, determined etc. Whereas weak says the opposite. Uncertain, lacking in confidence, weak willed, etc I dont know whether you can't trust someone with a weak handshake though. Give them the benefit of the doubt!!

I suppose it comes back to how you were raised by your parents and yes I was taught the same thing regarding handshakes, that's why I set out to give a firm handshake. So the end choice is yours now to either trust them or not. I myself wouldn't.

Handshakes don't really determine trust, but you can tell if someone's effeminate or sensitive by them.

Absolutely not!......especially men. If they shake hands in an effeminate way, they definitely cannot be trusted. You can let weakhandshakers wash your car or change your oil, but long term relationships of any kind will never last. You'll be betrayed. It's just like never trust a man that doesn't wear a watch.NEVER!

In some culture, like the Asian country shaking one's hand vigourously is rude.
In other culture it means that the person in confident.
I would suggest that you should shake some one's hand carefully not to make that person's body move, not only this could be bad for him (say you dislocate his shoulders, or he had a bad day playing tennis) you want to make sure that your handshake is firm acknowledging that person you welcome him or her.

well....if they have a weak handshake with you, it probably means that they don't trust you or they are insecure. if they don't trust you, how are you supposed to trust them?
