Pakistan's leader Pervez Musharraf has run over Pakistan's constitution and removed the rights of many Pakistani citizens; all done in the name of fighting terrorism and its threat to democracy.
And as I read this, I couldn't help but notice that it sounded rather familiar to me in here in America. Interestingly enough, similar events have happened in England and now in Australia as well.
It seems to me that Bush's attempt to protect democracy from terrorism, seems to be losing democracy not only in America but in nearly every country allied with America. Does it seem that way to all of you as well?

For all of you that still believe America is completely democratic (rather than just the surface. America has about as much to do with democracy as church has to do with God, or school has to do with education.
America may once have been a beacon of light, but it has now become a country of ironic hypocrisy.

And for Wenteast. The church left God a long time ago. The church has becoming nothing more than a whorehouse selling God's name to the highest bidder (usually the gov'ts). The gov'ts destroy humanity in the name of their own power, and the church provides God's "approval" though Jesus himself said he had nothing to do with the gov'ts (Be no part of this world as I am no part of this world).
And school is a form of control. They teach us that America is the greatest country in the world and so we must never question it, no matter what the gov't does. That is why democracy is failing now. George Bush has leveled the greatest attack democracy has ever seen (even more than 9/11) and anyone who questions him is labeled a traitor to America. Those who question him are the only ones who have protected democracy, and they are labeled traitors for doing so.

And for Wild-man of Borneo. I'm sorry, but I cannot understand what you wrote. It sounds like, if it is cleaned up with some punctuation, like it is probably worth reading. But I cannot figure out what it was you were trying to say.

You seem to have two questions here, really, the first just a pretext to the political point you want to make in the second. And the answer is both is "no."
Is Pakistan becoming more American? No. It's not becoming more democratic, it isn't more of a respector/guarantor of human rights than previously, it doesn't give away billions and billions of dollars in aid, it doesn't liberate other countries... I don't think I need go on.
Second, is the Bush administration "losing democracy" in both America and in nearly every other ally? No, that's a ridiculous proposition.
Follow up: You just weakened your case: A church is where we find God, and school is where we are educated, so America is where we find democracy.
Thanks, keep talking!

Pakistan is not becoming "American" in terms of the U.S.A, more like banana republic central American (no offense). I mean Musharraf ran over the constitution but unlike Bush he did it in the most obvious and most dictatorial manner.
Take it like this: in the States, the strong two party system allows for much scrutiny so the executive can't have TOO much power (it seems that there are allowances though) but in Pakistan (as in other third or some second world countries) the executive has almost limitless powers (depending on how the executive puts a spin on it).
In this case, Musharraf is basically following the dictator's handbook to setting up a despotic rule:
First become army chief...
Then invite back your main opposition...
Try to kill the opposition...
Use that attempt as an excuse to declare a state of emergency...
Use the state of emergency as a cover for Martial law...
Put down all other opposition...
And if all goes well, start building a "new society" and then hold elections (the elections are optional of course...)
