This was typical John Lennon humor - he was being ironic and sarcastic. He wasn't trying to be profound.
Whatever exists in reality doesn't need to be imagined.
So that anything outside the realm of reality, by definition, does need to imagined.
It's like saying "Yeah, but you're taking the universe out of context."

and thats what he conveys in this quote

That's exactly what it means. If mankind wanted war to be over, they would stop it. Doesn't seem like the majority wants it to be over with or it would be. Maybe I'm wrong, that's just my opinion.

It means that reality is a matter of individual perception which has been influenced by our experiences, beliefs, and personal values.

It means what it says.
but, its not valid anymore honestly.
i can imagine alot and thing is its not just me imagining it anymore weather it be good or bad, it is happening somewhere in the world!
he meant that people try and hide things like the goverment or just any one... and that people try to sugar coat or cover up things. so you have room to imagine otherwise.
its hard to explain...

it means reality in not perfect and people imagine how it would be better and imagine the perfect place; a utopia.
