I started dating this guy recently and there have been a few times where we are talking online and he calls me "cutie" or "cutie pie" I think thats adorable and I want to say something back to him...like almost a nickname. So what can I say back that isn't too over the top, but gets the point across that I like this guy. We haven't been dating for long at all so I don't want to say something too strong to scare him away.

Try a number of different nicknames like sweetie. He'll let you know what he likes and doesn't like.

Does "adorable" really work on a guy? I would totally use it but wouldn't some guys think that they're a "joke" if their girl called them "adorable" and not "hot?"
