Genetic defect. After the Fall everything started deteriorating and going to hell in a handbasket (pun intended). Genes were no exception. God made His creation very resiliant, and it has held up very well considering the destruction that sin has caused, but that distruction has nevertheless taken its toll.

They are more correctly called pseudohermaphrodites as they can't self-reproduce. It could be unkindly viewed as a 'defect' in that respect. But I wouldn't call it that, just as Down's Syndrome is known as a defect also, they are just people at the end of the day.
I've asked what religionists think about 'hermaphrodites' and gender orientation but nver really got an answer other than : " They don't exist" Orthis little gem:
"If they have a male and female organ, then they should be called male" etc etc,
It seems to fuse some people's minds because it challenges their rigid, scriptural/superstitious notions of sexual identity/orientation.
EDIT: LOL up pops the very same answerer who insists that someone with a male organ (even if non-functioning, and accompanied with fully-functioning female genitals and chromosomes) should still be identified as 'male'.
Here, again, just for Dr. Weston:
"Fausto-Sterling contends that sex is a continuum rather than a collection of discretely defined phenotypes. She proposes that along this continuum are five points: male, ferm (female pseudohermaphrodite), hermaphrodite, merm (male pseudohermaphrodite), and female. Each has variations that shade into the neighboring point. She estimates the frequency of all sexually mosaic conditions (hermaphrodites and pseudohermaphrodites) in humans to be about 1% of the population."
Does this attitude sound familiar:?
In the early 1900s, "true" sex was said to be the sex of the gonads. Thus, people having androgen insensitivity syndrome were classified as "really" males, even though their entire physical appearance and usually their sexual orientation was female (Dreger, 1998). It was thought that society could not deal with people who were not either one or the other sex.
Some people still can't 'deal' with it.

Hermaphrodites don't occur in humans, just so you know. The term here to correctly use is "intersexed". Hermaphroditism occurs in some plants and species.
If we see it as a genetic defect, then to answer your question it would be more logical as that than that a god is the result of it.

The entire basis of Intentional Design is that there are no genetic defects that are not brought about by god's intervention.
So by that defintion, and using creation science than god created hermaphrodites.

Hermaphrodites come in two varieties...The true Hermaphrodite and the Pseudo-Hermaphrodite...
The former being genetic and the latter also known as Inter-sex is due to a chemical imbalance in the womb...
Homosexuals, in my opinion, are not biological because there is no physical manifestation of it as a genetic issue like there is in true Hermaphrodites..
True Hermaphrodites manifest their genetic issue physically, why don't homosexuals do the same if homosexuality is genetic?

It is purely genetic though not always a defect (some people might be happy with their hermaphrodite body and wouldn't call it a defect)

The Greek word for "Spirit" is pneuma.
Pneuma is a neuter gender noun.
In other words pneuma is neither masculine nor feminine.
The above facts indicate (so THEY say) that the Holy Spirit is an "it" rather than a person.
Thus (THEY say) the Holy Spirit is not a distinct person.
Moreover, Holy Spirit is (THEY say) merely an emanation or influence from God.
in other words the holy spirit was "hermaphrodite" which leads you to presume that god had a hand in it (no pun intended)

Since you're calling it a defect, I'm assuming you mean in humans.
Hermaphrodites are fairly common elsewhere in nature.

Its a birth defect in humans that should be accepted like any cross one is given in life. God gave each one of us differences to help us to become the best person we are capable of being. Accepting the burdens of the body and society with grace, obedience and love will make a person spiritually strong. As a sword is tempered by the smith...so our souls are tempered by trials, defects and burdens. To allow some to be born with the defect only means he has given them specific instructions on how to make it out of this life and be with him. They must do without something or endure something extra in order to thrive. If they can correct the problem with surgery then the surgery itself may be the burden they must bare. To follow God in spite of trials is how saints are made.

We are imperfect. God is a God of love, he wouldn't make something like that purposely... knowing the effects of it. Just like children are born without limbs, mental defects, diseases and the like, i think you can group Hermaphrodites in with them as well
