Round off the distance to 3000 miles. Divide that by 25 miles per gallon and get 120 gallons. Multiply that by $3 per gallon and get $360 for the round trip.

Easy. You are traveling 2946 miles round trip.

2946 miles * (1 gallon/25 miles) * (3 dollars/1 gallon) = $353.52

Basically, you want to set it up so that all units (miles, gallons) cancel each other out except for dollars (because that is what we are looking to find).

Just divide 2946 miles by 25 mpg then multiply the total by your gas price your using.
2946m / 25mpg = 117.84

117.84 x $3(gas price) = $353.52
