And also, why he created the Universe??
Btw, I'm an atheist but I'm really interested in the theory behind religion that rarely gets properly and clearly answered.

According to modern physics "Time" is charactersitics of universe. So, "BEFORE" universe is a paradox. If time is part of universe, how do you understand time out of universe. So, your question does not really carry any meaning.
God created universe as manifestation of his characteristics. He is creator by His very nature, so His "attribute of creation" has resulted into "action of creation"

"JCaddy, are you saying that God was only born with the Universe? Coz that doesn't make much sense"

Donna, I found that question interesting because the Hindus approach the Creation a bit differently from the Christians and Muslims. A quatrain from the Rig Vedas, loosely translated, states that even the gods appeared later in time. "Only the Sovereign One knows the origins of the universe. Only He knows, or perhaps even He does not know." - Rig Veda X-129.

Another piece of Hindu scripture is a tale from the epic, Mahabharata. This story speaks of Krishna (the human incarnate of God) eating dirt as a child. When the concerned mother opens the boy's mouth to remove the dirt she finds all of Creation in there. This story is to illustrate that God and the cosmos are one and the same.

Okay, the best I can comprehend, with God there is no time. You cannot say before or after or even during. God is outside of time and outside of space. Space and Time are mysteries that we have only just begun to discover. That end of physics starts making my head hurt.

I have always descirbed it as being able to pause time and go back or forward whenever you wished. You can also be anywhere you wish at the same time. You could spend an enternity just in one day of our universe working on things and arranging things around. Now for you, there is no time, except what you percieve as your own time.

When I think I start to get it, I realize that I can never understand something outside of time and space because I am not ouside of time or space.

God created the universe to express his love and to create a being that could love him and be like Him.

If you absolutely have to comprehend God in some form of "time", you could say he has always been creating universes. He had already created angels. We are not told of anything else God created, but are not told if He created anthing or anyone else or not.

The first guy is correct. What God was doing before the universe has no relevance because the construct of time and thought is non-existent. The multi-verse theory of physical regeneration seems most logical to me and that who I call God lies in a dimension that is separated from this. The only passage way into his realm of existence is through inquiry, so you are on the right track.

The Bible doesn't say what he was doing but there are glimpses of it in scripture. He was preparing a ;plan of eternal salvation for man based on sacrificial love. He had a heaven. He created angels.

He created the universe because God is Love. And love is the creative force of the universe. He shared his love for man by dying on the cross for him so that man would have eternal fellowship with God. Later in man's future besides heaven God will prepare a new heaven and new earth.

I've posted longer answers to this and am sorry I didn't explain this better. Thanks for having an open mind.

i can tell you according to my religion ( islam), God created a very big universe so humsn do not feel like( suffocated) they are in jain in a small universe with borders and to motivate them to learn and study and they see the greatness of the God, God created human to worship him so he can have mercy on them because he is the most merciful, like a painter will paint to show his skills. what he was doing before creating the universe? he was alone in emptyness then he decided to creat creature so he can take of them. you can find all these answers in Quran if you want to read it, everything about creation, the past, present and the future

May be planning. Do you plan before doing anything and don't you know what you are planning to do.(purpose). Don't you expect that what you are planing to do come in good shape and work well according to your desire. even after you made and if you found anything wrong will you not try to rectify it. Will you not marvel at the work of your hand when it functions very well. More to say.......my friend.

why do you have to rain on the parade? god makes them feel warm and fuzzy and for most not have to take responsibility for their actions. Just let them live their lives of ignorance and intolerant hate. we all will know the truth or nothing in the end. If fairy tails help them get through life, so be it.

It doesn't get answered because nobody knows, and it does not form a part of religious dogma. There are things that people know or strongly believe in religion, there are things that are speculation based on internal dogmatic logic, and there are things that are matters of pure speculation. This one is a matter of pure speculation. In traditional theology, God is simple and self-contained, and has no need to do anything other than exist.
