Why isn't everyone accepting that people have their own religions, that one religion isn't right for everyone? One lady I met at DQ today with her youth group was talking about how they were learning other religions so they could learn how to teach the gospels to them. She was a very sweet lady, but her message that "Everyone should know Jesus" struck me wrong. Any die-hard Christian that thinks this statement is right should think about two of Jesus' main teachings: love and acceptance of our neighbors.

Jesus did tell us to accept other religions. And if Jesus is your joy, that doesn't mean he's someone else's. Just like iPods and Zunes. One person likes one, another likes the other, another likes both. This subject is really touchy for me because I was confused about my beliefs mainly because of the way people preached twisted versions of Jesus. I didn't want to be Christian and be taught those tales. I ended up keeping my faith, though I go to a church that accepts all religions.

This is tricky question to answer. The thing is that people confuse spirituality with Religion. For example, Christ never said 'This is what I teach and when you follow it you will be Christians'. He taught how to be a good human being, to love fellow man and to love god.
The world oldest religion 'Sanatan Dharma' is 5000 years old. It is mis-quoted as 'Hinduism'. But the translation of 'Sanatan Dharma' means 'eternal duty' - its duty towards fellow humans and towards God.
No enlightened soul taught religion per se, they taught us the word of God.
We, the people named it in to different religions and restricted ourselves in to that Name. Thus began the division of humanity on basis of those names. With division comes superiority complex...urge and need to prove that our word is the word of god and everyone needs to follow it.
But at the core, all religions essentially say the same thing: love each other and love god

Many people feel strongly about their beliefs. It's because their beliefs have worked well for them. They can see that this world is not in perfect harmony together, and by suggesting to others to try their way of worship, they're simply trying to help. I completely understand that much of their 'advice' comes unsolicited, and that can be very annoying. Whatever you believe, just tell whomever next time, that you'll ask them if you're interested in more information.
One more thing, I grew up thinking that my beliefs were the only true beliefs, and that all of the other religions were wrong. Over time, I began to open up my mind, and now realize that if I hadn't heard other people's opinions, I wouldn't feel the way that I feel today. It is still evolving. Try to keep an open mind by remembering that no one knows for sure what the real answer is.
Peace ~

people cast out their doubts in several ways and this is one of them. if the pastor whom teaches at their place of worship wasn't so much in a world of insufficient confidence then his followers woudn't be sending their waves of "doubt" so often. There is a verse in the bible that states plainly "if you say you know God and do not hold his commandments then you are a liar." There is only one sure way to find a true follower of god just look to see what day he uses for the sabbath. ( it's saturday!) We are born in sin and there is no other way to escape the imprisonment of sin unless you are called by the almighty to be a part of his plan. and then it takes all of your being as a human. There is a tremendous amount of speculation after most people read a bible, and the only real problem confronted was they didn't let the book read to them! Jesus did not go from house to house and preach the gospel, he went to these places because he was sent there by his father. We were created as creatures of free choice and there is nothing more sickening then to see a messenger of the word, tell these humans they they are going to hell if they do not change their ways. "Hell" is a term the English people used to describe a hole in the ground to bury the potatoes each fall so they wouldn't freeze! Counselor W.I.U. 66

He said we should love our neighbors as ourselves. I love my neighbor enough to try and share the gift of salvation with him. Jesus never taught tolerance of any belief other then what he taught. That is a misconception, Jesus clearly taught that he was the ONLY way to the father, however he did not tell us to go out and murder unbelievers as is taught in the Koran. It is a commandment not a suggestion, to go out into all the world making disciples of all nations, any Christian that does not share the gospel is actually in disobedience. But remember people have free will, we can not and will not force anyone to believe. That is the beauty of or God, he is a gentleman he makes you an offer if you refuse it is your choice. But you will be the one missing out, there is an immense amount of joy and fulfillment in Christ, he is truly an awesome God!

They honestly think they are doing people a favour. Think about it, if you see a really awesome movie, wouldn't you want to share the idea of going with other people? It's the same principle - evangelists believe that they are sharing something that would greatly benefit you for your sake and for the sake of getting one more soul saved for the Lord.

And before I get my *** kicked by all the intolerant atheists on here, I am actually agnostic, not Christian. The only difference between me and you is that I have an open mind and understand why people do what they do instead of just insisting that they are "forcing their beliefs on other people."

Simple... Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life, no one comes to the Father except through me."
As a follower of Christ my mission is to love the people that God loved (John 3:16) and the best demonstration of my love is to lead them to the right way of salvation... through JESUS alone! Any other way (or religion) other than Christ's will lead to nowhere because "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12 (NIV)

It's called the 'Messiah complex' syndrome.

Somehow people are led to believe that THEY can save the world[!] by citing everybody else's mistakes --or sins-- but lose sight of their own. And yet, not a single one of them would be willing to be crucified... Go figure.

Peace be with you.

When you suffer from schizoid delusional mental disorder, as people believing things like invisible friends in the sky watching them, listening to them and influencing theirr life do, you feel comforted when you can convince others that your delusions are real dear.
