it shows what Jesus did for us: gave grace to the worst of people, at a cost to Himself.

This verse utterly exposes the darkness and injustice of politics sister. Shows how insensitive and blind the rest were. Not a few days ago they were hailing the Lord, throwing down their palms on the streets of Jerusalem singing Hosannas. Now they prefer the release of a hardened criminal and take the Prince of Life and scourge Him. Forty lashes is what it takes to kill a man.... they gave the Lord 39. Then on top of that, to have to carry a raw piece of wood on His back all through the city.

I recall a song sister..
Its a hymn that always makes me stop and utter in a soft sigh.. "Lord Jesus.. who am I that You could love me so"

My song is love unknown
My Savior's love to me
Love to the loveless shown
That they might lovely be
Oh who am I that for my sake
My Lord should take frail flesh and die?

He came from His blest throne
Salvation to bestow
But men made strange and none
The longed for Christ would know
But oh my Friend.. My Friend indeed
Who for my need His life did spend.

Sometimes they strew His way
And His sweet praises sing
Resounding all the day
" Hosannas!" to their King
THEN " Crucify!"
Is all their breath
And for His death they thirst and cry

They rise and needs will have
MY dear Lord made a way
A Murderer they save
The Prince of Life they slay
Yet cheerful He to suffering goes
That He His foes from hence might free

In life, no house no home.
My Lord on earth might have
In death, no friendly tomb but what a stranger gave
What may I say?
Heaven was His home
But MINE the tomb wherein He lay

Here might I stay and Sing
No story so divine
Never was love dear King
Never was grief like Thine
THIS IS MY FRIEND
In whose SWEET PRAISE
I all my days could gladly spend!!

You can listen to the melody here.

It means that Jesus died for the worst of us as well as the best. The ground at the foot of the Cross is level.

The real point of that story is the people *preferring* to free a known conspirator and theif instead of Jesus, whom they had just been praising and treating like a hero a few days before.

Says a lot about fallen human nature.

Barabbas represents the whole world who were astrayed from God's presence. And Jesus released us through His death. Now we enjoy the liberty, just because He suffered for us. If only Jesus was not dead and risen, our hope would have been insane.

The fulfilment of prophecy.....

This proves to me that Scripture does not lie about the sovereign will of God
