No - I seriously would not recommend it.

Dogs are an active, intellignet, social species and it is very unfair to keep one at home on its own all day.

This is especially true for puppies. A puppy will NOT be able to last very long without needing the toilet, so you are going to have a lot of mess to look forward to when you get home.

Puppies need a lot of time for care, socialisation and training. You can not properly housetrain a dog unless you are there to supervise it, let alone anything else. He will very probably suffer from separation anxiety which can lead to excessive barking or whining, soiling, destructiveness and even self-harm. Some dogs will literally chew themselves until they bleed.

Puppies also need lots of socialisation - to get them used to different things. This is not something you would have time for.

Please, please do not get a pupy until you have the time to care for it properly. Too many people take on puppies they don't have time for and end up dumping them on a rescue when the dog causes problems becomes it is miserable and untrained.

It depends on how old the puppy is and how long your usually at work.

A good rule of thumb is 4 hours - 6 hours, that usually means going home on your lunch hour and letting the dogs out so they have time to do their "thing." You can work up to 8 hours AT THE MOST but never more then 8 hours. This is what our vet told us.

If you can't do this, you should probably find a good doggie daycare or a very reliable friend or neighbor that can help you and your puppies out.

Nope, they will be lonely and play up & be mildly destructive and anti-social.

Oh, they'll probably get over the neglect, and no one will find out. Their size doesn't matter - dogs are sociable creatures, and they aren't human, or capable of understanding your need for "work" or "income" or "separation".

They only internalise the long bleak emptiness of being deprived of any social interaction. Try showing them how to ring premium-rate chat lines. Or maybe they'd enjoy a game of Scrabble, some daytime TV, or Discovery channel? You think?

Yes you can leave them at home but I would put something that they can chew on in with them. If its a long period of time I would put in a little dry food and water. They would probably like a blanket to snuggle with too. For long work hours I would have someone let them out a few times while you are away.

yes....i just got a cocker spaniel. it was 8 weeks old. i had one week at home with it to get it used to being there and the next week, i started her in a kennel at the house. she did fine. read somewhere puppies sleep 18 hrs a day anyway so you are good to go. just make sure to walk it before work and give it lots of attention/exercise when you get home in the afternoons. you'll be fine.

be sure to "crate" them till you know they are house broken. They may need seperate crates, and toys. But coming home to a pee'd and poo'd and chewed home is .... well you get the idea.

As long as the pup has been settled in for a few days I don't see any problems.
