Because atheists are religious/spiritual.
They're not agnostic (which is the choice to refrain from picking a side)
Atheists don't believe in God. Which is ironic since in order to not believe in something you have to believe in it in the first place.
From my experience, atheists are typically kids that were raised with a religious background and then lost their belief because it was taught to them with too much 'hocus pocus' and they figure that either everything they were told, word for word, is true...or it's not.
I still believe atheists are idiots (just like fundamentalists) because they believe that they know things even though they really don't know a damn thing at all.
You don't even know how to define God, so how can you believe or disbelieve in it?
And what does it matter anyway? Is God tinkerbell? If you say you don't believe in God and then refrain from clapping your hands does reality change?
See, that's why atheists are idiots. They think what they believe is the truth, and fail to realize the truth is the truth and what they believe is simply their personal reality.
Religion and spirituality is more than whether or not you believe in "God".
If you want to forget about all the morality and wisdom that religoius try to teach you, or the ability to form stable communities and protect/care about each other...and just focus on the pointless question of whether or not God exists...
Then, brainiacs, tell me: If energy cannot be created or destroyed, then why is there energy at all?
It doesn't matter if you THINK God created it. It doesn't matter if you THINK it was 'just here'. Because both answers are ignorance human answers and neither of them are based in fact, or truth, or logic. Not even a little bit. Not at all.
Maybe there are no stupid questions, but there sure are stupid people. And atheists are as stupid as fundamentalists.
The irony is that these two groups hate each other but have more in common with each other than any other two groups in the universe.
And p.s. to the dim-wit who made the statement about the 'emperor has no clothes on'.
"It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But the half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor."

Oh come on atheists, maybe the stats are wrong? I dont believe those stats? Its all made up? Majority of the world is religious. Not believing the stats doesnt change that. If a bunch of christians answered a question you presented with well I think you just made those facts up, wouldnt you consider them ignoring the facts?
The truth is that there are a proportionately larger number of atheists on this message board than there are in the general population. Even the atheists that wouldnt believe the stats has to acknowledge this fact.

Well, the thing is that atheists are a minority so to speak, but they are much more outspoken about what they believe. Many people are "spiritual in some way" without being a member of organized religon, and as such probably aren't passionately dedicated to answering questions and sharing their beliefs and logic with others.

Because there is alot of information on the internet. Alot of intelligent, logical, informed humans beings study and try and find answers to the questions they have as they seek the truth. They often find their truth after extensive research and begin to communicate their ideas to others. The internet is the place for thinking people...most of the time anyways. It's easier to find specific information and it's alot more convenient than reading an entire book.
Check out my past two bible questions on Yahoo Answers. See if you have an answer.
How many of the 90% of religious people actually attend church regularly...or how many of them have read the bible completely?

I would say that 50-60% of the people that I meet in real life are atheist/agnostic. However, they would not admit to being so in most cases.
In this country, saying out loud that you're an atheist is akin to saying you have lice, or that you enjoy torturing cats. Many people consider it offensive and/or rude to discuss it out loud. (We are the most widely despised minority in the world, you know)
However, when truly questioned, personally, like I said, I would say that 50-60% of the people I meet are actually atheist/agnostics. And they will admit it once you explain to them what the words mean.
But most people don't care what their label is, and simply call themselves "Christians" because that's the socially acceptable norm.
I guarantee you the statistics are off.
Hell, when I was in the army, I wasn't ALLOWED to call myself an atheist! That wasn't a choice. Tell me THAT'S not going to skew statistics.

Maybe because atheists tend to be the sort who crave knowledge. The internet is full of information. While the religious may prefer to read their Holy book for answers.

Religion is a sensitive subject, especially for those who hold a belief dear. No one likes to feel rejected, but right now the internet trend it to be an outspoken atheist. So that is totally expected/accepted, but it can be a little harder to say 'Yeah, I believe this and I know that this is true', especially when you know an atheist will probably mock it.
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the majority of atheists, just the ones that are obnoxious.

Well you have to consider the validity of stats. For example, I've never been asked my religion from someone collecting data for official statistics, so how do we know that they're accurate if they don't ask everyone? Who do they ask? Where? When? How can we be sure that some aren't being underrepresented? How can we be sure that the results aren't skewed?

Easy---Atheists--or those just fed up with the tribalism of organized religion now have a great new platform to debunk the nonsense taught as "the truth".It's like the Emporers New Clothes--nothing there!!! there is no one behind the curtain!!
