Wikipedia says this as a definition of "definition" (heh...):
"7. Clarity of visual presentation, distinctness of outline or detail."
(Examples:)
"The definition of a telescope."
"Improve the definition of an image."
Okay, well, if that's what one definition of the word -definition- is, for images, then how is resolution different, since higher resolutions are what produce higher clarities of pictures?
Or has the Wikipedia left something out, and therefore is definition not just resolution, but also about color depth and contrast range and things like that?
But wait! If it were about color depth, then would that be saying that a B/W picture has lower definition than a full-color picture, even if their resolutions are exactly the same?
Oh, and the definition of a picture wouldn't include ALL kinds of clarity, would it, because then you'd have to say that if the lens was out of focus, there was less definition, too, right? And that wouldn't make sense, would it?

Oh, especially with what we understand about high-definitin TV or other high-def. video, right? Unfocusing the camera's lens (or cameras' lenses) doesn't give the picture a "lower defintiton," just because of that word "clarity" in the meaning, does it? Nawww...
So just WHAT are the differences between picture definition and resolution, then?
Oh, and yes, I know that resolution is about the number of pixels--dots--in a picture, and even more specifically sometimes, the number of pixels per inch there. But doesn't definition work like that, too? Yeah, like 1920 X 1080 is full high-definition video. Or do we just mean that fully high-definition video has a resolutin of 1920 X 1080? So still, then, what's the difference between the two?
Hey, will you come back periodically and read my responses to your answers (and, if you want, also maybe add response to my responses by editing your answers to include new responses)?
Thanks,
Mike
