To places that have no dogs allowed signs?
The reason I ask is I work at a small but wonderful nature center. We do not allow dogs for a few reasons the biggest being we are funded and ran by the area's public school district as a field trip location which see's over 16,000 kids per school year. Some dogs are not so great with kids AND who wants to hike in someone's doggy mess? I have 6 dogs myself and went up to someone last year who decided to come visit with their golden retriever and let him know we are a no dogs allowed center and there is a dog park a few block away. He cursed me out!! Screaming and shouting how his dog wasnt hurting anything ect ect. All while I had 60 kids staring and wondering why he was being the way he was. I tried explaining our policy but he wouldnt hear it. I love taking my dogs places. Dog parks, nature walks ect but only when they are allowed. And we have 6 signs visible from the parking lot alone!!!! So, do you go area's that do not allow dogs?

we are a small center. We do not have the staff or resources to calm the screaming kids who are terrified of dogs and enforce cleanup after them. The area surrounding the center is a nice place for a walk with a dog park (specifically JUST FOR DOGS!! Mine love it!) just a few blocks away, if I get technical it is 3 and 1/2 blocks away from the center .The man in question, drove to the nature center. I love hiking with my dogs when allowed, but understand when they are not allowed, especially at nature centers designed to be a safe habitat for wildlife....which dogs like to chase (mine do, squirrrels especially) and although I love dogs I refuse to clean up after other peoples. And I see the need for wildlife to have their own place as well.

At first when I read your question I was thinking. Wow that man was rude. I would never do that....Then I had to rethink that . I would never take my big dogs. B u t I am guilty of taking my Yorkie in places she is not allowed. Church, When I get my haircut restaurants ,stores, schools, work, beaches, casino . She likes to go with me and I hate to leave her in the car. I have been caught lots of times but just one time asked to leave.

I love to take my dog places, never if he's not welcom but the number of places going to "no dogs allowed" is rediculous. We went on vacation a few months back and had to blow some time before we checked into our hotel so we decided to look at a few shops and bring the dog. We took turns standing outside with him but someone came up to me and advised me that I might want to take my dog some place else because it was a $500 fine. It was so hard just trying to find a hotel that allowed pets and the only one we could fine was a beat down hole in the wall place but at least the people were nice to me and my dog. The place I live now doesn't have a dog park for 125 miles. I can't even walk my dog around the block without someone elses dog or a stray attacking him. I understand if there are field trips and such that there needs to be safety taken into consideration but I think preventing leisurely dog walks all together takes away from the experience. Yes, people enjoy a nature walk but they also enjoy walking with their dog and If they pick up after their dog I don't see any reason it should be a problem. There are plenty of places that I've been to in Florida that are state parks and nature walks that allow dogs and honestly they are the ones that come consistently.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the guy was in the right at all and I know you guys don't have any control over wheather dogs are or are not allowed but I'm just saying that I have seen success with many places in Florida that are successful with trails that allow dogs. I understand that some regions have different views about dogs and there are irresponsible people but the handfull shouldn't ruin it for the world. I take my dog to parks when I'm in Florida but it's always nice to get that calm relaxing walk through nature and away from the busy city. As for the guy he was definetly in the wrong. Even if he didn't agree with the sign I still think he should have respected it.

I wouldn't take my dogs any place that they're not allowed. It's just rude and inconsiderate of both the people who are visiting that place and the staff of the area. I do however give animal friendly places who ban my BREED (APBT) a piece of my mind. I can't handle discrimination of any kind. If you say you're a dog friendly facility then you had better mean any and all dogs, not just the politically correct ones.
A friend of mine recently set up a photo shoot for her family which was to include the dogs, it was understood by all parties that the dogs would be there. She went and spent a ton of cash getting new outfits, having salon appointments for the human family and grooming ones for all her dogs. She was called 4 hours before the scheduled time and told she couldn't bring the dogs since they were pit bulls even though the offices knew that in advance. Her dogs are aged 11 and 13 and both are registered therapy animals one of which is getting very feeble, but I guess that didn't matter.
To me that is just flat wrong. She's not only not getting the pictures but they refused to refund her the sitting fee that she gave them in advance because according to them she still had the option to come in, she just had to leave half her family at home.

I live in an area where many of the canyons are off-limit to dogs due to the watershed. I've driven up one of the "no dogs allowed" canyons with my family dog in the car, but she wasn't let out. I just like driving through the canyons sometimes and I wanted company.
In the past I have let my dog off-leash in areas where she wasn't supposed to be. I admit that it was partly from frustration that dogs are only allowed off-leash in a few areas where I live, and people are trying to get those places shut down because there are too many dogs running around. Whenever my dog is off-leash, I make sure she isn't causing anyone trouble. Our dog parks are too precious to take many risks, lest they be turned into fenced-in dirt lots where dogs can run free.

I do not take my dog somewhere if I see a "No Dogs Allowed" sign for a few reasons.
1) I was brought up to be respectful of "the rules" and of other people. Not everyone is crazy about dogs.
2) I don't want to bring my dog where she's not welcome.
3) I don't want to pay a fine for being arrogant and ignoring posted signs.

I don't bring my dog where dogs aren't allowed. But it's getting harder and harder to find places that DO allow dogs! Especially dogs off leash. A dog ON the leash just can't get that much exercise...
I try very hard to keep my dog from becoming a nuisance to anyone, anywhere, because I don't want MY dog contributing to the general 'anti-dog' sentiment that seems to be growing in towns and cities.

Absolutely not. I think when it comes to dogs, it's very important to be respectful to others. Same way I don't like people leaving their dogs off-leash in areas of the park that aren't off-leash areas. My dogs would not harm anyone, but I think bringing them where they're not allowed just gives dogs, and dog owners, a bad name.

I spent a lot of time training my hunting dog in both obedience and hunting and love to take her everywhere she is welcome to go. I even research whether pets are welcome when traveling or planning to visit somewhere I might want to take my dog. (FYI, La Quintas almost always allow dogs, even big ones) If there is a "no dogs" sign, it's typically there for a reason... even if the reason is not obvious. "No dogs" means just that and I always respect the wishes of the property owner. Shame on those dog owners that disregard the signs. Their behavior (and I would have to assume their pet's behavior) is sometimes the reason that the "no dogs" sign is even there!

I do not take my dogs where they are not allowed because I understand that the rules are in place for a reason. It is a matter of respect and some people just have no respect or consideration for anything but their own wants.
