Will it have negative side effects on the person's gums or teeth?

It's fine. I had braces in my 20s. Adults may have to wear the braces for a longer period of time because their teeth are more set in place. I had to have mine for 3 years. If I had them as a teen, I probably would've only had to wear them for 2. But, that wasn't a big deal overall. I love how my teeth look now.

Braces for adults are getting to be more and more common. There will not be negative side effects as long as you follow the suggestions given to you by your orthodontist, when it comes to the foods you eat and proper dental hygiene. In fact, the health of your mouth may actually improve.

I got braces when I was 29. I had much better luck with it than my sisters (who got them as teens). As an adult, you tend to take better care of your teeth, which is what keeps your teeth & gums healthy.

As long as you take good care of them by brushing properly, there shouldn't be any negative side effects.
