Stress causes Dis - Ease throughout the body. It prohibits proper digestion of foods, limiting the bodies ability to gain full benefit from the foods we eat.
This in turn lowers our immune system.
When our immune system is lowered, our body is naturally in a weakened state and therefore disease or dis-ease has the ability to set in.
As well, during times of stress we tend to not sleep as well, proper rest being a Pillar of Health.

well, if you're stressed your blood pressure might increase, which over time is damaging to your eyes and kidneys and heart. if you're stressed, you're probably not eating healthy, or sleeping right. poor diet leads to diseases such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, etc. and studies have shown that sleep deprivation leads to poor physical health as well.
and on a side note, i was in an abusive relationship for 2.5 years during which time my hair started to fall out. after that relationship ended and i healed, my hair started to grow back.

How Does Stress Contribute to Heart Disease?
Medical researchers aren't sure exactly how stress increases the risk of heart disease. Stress itself might be a risk factor, or it could be that high levels of stress make other risk factors (such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure) worse. For example, if you are under stress, your blood pressure goes up, you may overeat, you may exercise less and you may be more likely to smoke.
If stress itself is a risk factor for heart disease, it could be because chronic stress exposes your body to unhealthy, persistently elevated levels of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. Studies also link stress to changes in the way blood clots, which increases the risk of heart attack.
