Before VCRs....?

Was there a player that came before the VCR or was that the first thing?

Before video tape became practical the only thing was film projectors. The truly rich could have these in their homes as much as 100 years ago. By the late 1950's it wasn't unusual for upper middle class homes to have small (8mm) movie cameras and projectors , mostly for home movies (& porn).

There were reel to reel video tape machines dating back to 1963 (Philips EL3400).

In 1971 Sony introduced it's U-matic recorders that enclosed the video tape in a cassette. I guess you could call this the first VCR.

These early "small" video tape machines were mostly used by businesses/schools. Some were used in (rich) people's homes.

In 1975 Sony introduced it's Betamax VCR; this was the first VCR to be used in large numbers by consumers

Before VCRs there wasn't a way people could record and watch TV programmes.

There was a beta player (similar to a vhs) didnt last long tho..before that..nope regular tv

actually after doing some research, it was called a beta vcr..so answer would be no

LaserDisc players were first, but the format was analog,,,they were awfully big too ( the size of a vinyl album )...You would push in the movie, scan the movie manually, then take it out of the player...I used to have a rich friend that owned one back in the early 80's...Beta's were coming out, yet Vhs hadn't yet..We used to watch Escape from New York with Kurt Russel..A Classic!

are you talking vcr or vhs? if you're talking vhs, beta was first, i think. if you're talking vcr, then the answer is no
