Vegetarianism is very important since you cant be really spiritual unless you become a good human being and so the first step is being compassionate and non violent to all creatures. The Hindu scriptures say that animals have no sense of discernment which humans do possess so if human beings commit a wrong to helpless creatures they are bound to suffer in " raurava naraka" - a type of hell described in our scriptures

I do not know what you mean by spiritualism.

For me, we are energy. All fruit and vegetables have energy. All four and two legged animals have energy.

To eat meat from animals which have been killed, is to take on into your own body the stress the animal feels at this time.
Do you need to do that?. I don't.

I once had a puppy, who ate canned "muck", then one day I feed him real meat. He was different after that, but then I am sensitive and can feel these things.
It is all choice, I know as the body becomes lighter, with the indwelling light of God, the need for "heavy food" is lost. The lighter fruits and vegetables, nuts, berries, light grains work better, and one is able to sustain living in light longer and more easefully.

Put it to the test, some people will guard their right to eat meat, some cannot contemplate living without it. I have always felt that meat eaters can be more aggressive. Go figure that.

It is all choice, all I say is try it and see how it feels for you.
You will know within a few days, so what have you got to lose, but much to gain I say.

Peace in the heart.

Vegetarianism is a personal choice, and specific to your own beliefs. I consider my limited meat diet to be spiritual, because I feel a relationship with other creatures.

I am not vegetarian, but I'm very selective of how and when I eat meat. As an omnivore, I made the mistake of getting to know different types of animals on a personal level. I have learned that cows can show affection, fear, trust and distrust. Chickens have personalities and pigs are quite intelligent. Out of respect for them and out of my opposition to the absolutely cruel treatment they receive in the crammed warehouses where they are 'processed'- by which I mean spend their entire lives in intolerable conditions until they are killed for meat-, I eat seafood and cruelty-free dairy products (I haven't met many fish, lol). I also do not eat eggs frequently, because I do not like to support the current egg-production system.

I dont force anyone to be vegetarian,
But the concept behind this is to stop harming other creatures. you what other people said, they (vegetarians) are plants murderers. I dont agree because eating a part of plant is not harmful to the plants like fruits. Nature has made rule that when fruit becomes completely ripen it should attract other herbivores by fragrance (good smell) and bright colours to get seeds apart naturally and safely. So Human beings should eat only those which is suited to their body. Otherwise, one fassion ful day may come at which human dung will sold in the shops and people may be eating with pleasure with different company brands.
REMEMBER: Only those animals can eat non veg which do have elongated canine teeth which purely indicates the suit of such things. Observe the cows and human beings, do they have elongated canines?
No, so if you dont wanna break the rule of nature please stop the two hells.
1. Stop killing other creatures
2. Give your body good resistance power by suitable food instead of only taste.
My answer regarding the Taby (For Taby and his foollowers),
First of all you not experienced nor really eating to survive. We have the canine teech to split off fibrous flesh (muscular part of a fruit =dictionary) of a plant or plant product. Ok Let you eat whatever you want to eat. Taste once your ******,etc. and your family also. For me family is the whole nature.

(In GeneraI)
In Human beings cellulose is digested in the appendix part which lies as connection between the Large and small intestine. In that portion certain Bacteria use to live which upon getting plant products separate cellulose into digestivle stuff for human body. Both here are benefited without harming each other.

Yes, to be a vegetarian is very important for spiritual progress. If your desire for spiritual progression is very intense then it is a must.

1. while doing certain practices in the morning & in the evening, if it is a veg. diet then it will be easily digested, not like the non veg food.

2.Veg. food will develop satva characters.

3.Our body is structured by nature so that we have veg.food.The intestines of herbiverous are long where as carnivorous have a short intestine. The food taken by the carnivorous will take days to digest that's why those animals don't have food for certain days. They hunt for food only when they are hungry. They don't dump with food.Even the cooked meat will take a long time for digestion.

Since our intestine is very long, the non veg food which we eat will take some more time to come out of the body which is not good for our health.Where as veg food is easily digestable & it digests within 2 to 3 hrs.

About killing the plants is not a big reason. If you see in the nature everything survives by eating some species or the other. That is a natural process.LET THE ANIMALS ALSO LIVE, WHY KILL THEM FOR FOOD TO GROW OUR BODY.

I have the same question as the original poster. But I'm not interested in people's health reasons. I only want spiritual reasons. Because:
Time magazine and Johns Hopkins just announced that MEAT is not the heart disease maker, its the carbs. Just goes to show, they do not know what is healthy anymore. So please don't tell me about the 'added health benefits.' of vegetarianism.
I am by my disease, forced to follow a Paleo diet or I get very sick. Reference: Dr Terry Wahls, who now has clinical studies to reference. Say what you like about the plant based nonsense, I get all my autoimmune symptoms back on the 'medically advised' vegetarian plan. Not being able to walk is pretty devastating and important. Or do you survive off only salad and fruit, foregoing both grains and meat?. Sorry I starve and pass out on that little food. And my thought processes are not "faster' either. Does God want me to damage my learning vehicle on this planet? I would like to think Spiritualism would say no. Am I not spiritual enough, because I get sick on vegetarianism? Is that what all you people (those who said yes) are saying? You assume vegetarianism is healthy and therefore the best thing to do. Why is India, (highly vegetarian), having the highest rates of heart disease in the world? Maybe they are eating alot of carbs to substitute the meat. You turn people away from God with all your dogma about what to eat or not eat. Or deem me in a " less serious spiritual line" for not following those rules. I am new to spiritualism, but the vegetarian dogma, almost turns me away. Or am I supposed to not do what my doctor says because my spiritual side says otherwise? I am asking honestly this: Does any Spiritualist really think I should make myself sick again for my recently newfound faith?
Please don't respond by telling me that if vegetarianism is 'done properly' surely it would be ok. My doctor already went that route with herself and her patients-- and time and time again- they get sick. Me included. It shouldn't be so hard to do it 'properly' without getting sick. She is an MD, so please spare me your medical advice. I only want spiritual answers here.
If it were necessary, then wouldn't that make the past Native American tribes not spiritual?

Amazing so many people answered ''no''. If spirituality means non violence then it is clear there cannot be spirituality without being vegetarian. If spirituality means health for both the mind and the body then being vegetarian is necessary.

No it is not, but if you are following a particular doctrine then it may be required. You can be very spiritual on your own without being a vegetarian. Being a vegetarian is a personal choice. I was one for 10 years, but have stopped now.

Let me answer this question logically. Just think over the lines below, I am talking as a human-being irrespective of which faith I belong to:

1.. Look, if we had only to be a vegetarian then nature had only provided us with the incisor set of teeth as in case of herbivorous animals but the fact is not so, instead we have been provided with all three kinds of teeth i.e. molars ,canines and incisors.

2..Coming to the point of spirituality ,do u think a sin is committed if you kill an animal because it is living being ,but don't you think that science has already declared that plants too are living ,they can even feel pain ,breathe, etc ;then do we kill them because they don't have all 5 senses as possessed by animals. Let me explain: e.g. I have a brother who is born deaf and dumb .Someone comes and kills my brother, will I go to the judge and ask him to punish him less because my brother hadn't all the 5 senses which a human possesses b'coz he was born deaf and dumb. The answer will surely be No. Same is the case with plants, are we then justified this way to kill them. Ponder!

3..Herbivores have got special enzymes to digest the cellulose ( the extra cover which plant cell possesses) but human beings do not have such enzymes at all??
Rest is for you to decide.........

Anil, first specify what you mean by 'spiritualism'.
Don't you know 'jeeva jeevasya ahaaram' meaning living being is the food of living being.
What do vegetarians eat? Vegetables and grains. All of them live and grow. If you eat an apple. Will you eat a dead apple (which has got rotten)? So don't correlate eating with murder or butchery.
I am a strict vegetarian Indian and don't eat onion even but this has nothing to do with 'spiritualism' practised by me.
I suggest you to visit a website 'www.dhamma.org' and get the answer.
