I recently paid $20 on the internet to Genealogical Research Institute for an investigation of my ancestral heritage. They told me I am descended from the princely Russian family of Tossoff, whose motto was: "F_ck or f_ck off!". But my name is Bottomley and, as far as I know, we've always been farmers in Frisby. What chance do I have to get my money back?

I don't see the Institute listed anywhere on the search engine, so it may not look good. At least it's only $20.

Either they saw you coming which would fit in with the Russian surname as well as the motto, or this story is a bad attempt at humour, I'm not inclined to believe that you are farmer Bottomley from Frisby either so it would be unlikely that you paid $20 to get back. Keep taking the pills and stick to "Knock knock" jokes - but what do I know, maybe I'm just being cynical!

Most Americans are not going to get the references. This looks like another joke. We don't use "w@nk" or "toss" to mean masturbate. We use "jerk off". If there is a limerick about a farmer from Frisby, it isn't common over here.

I once wasted 15 minutes typing an honest answer to someone who claimed his name was "Juan Kerr", which is how I found out "w@nk" means "masturbate" in the UK.

All the questions in English go into one big pot, and everyone in the world reads them. It looks like a couple of Americans tried to answer you already. Some of the answerers here are little old ladies intheir 60's and 70's. Please don't use this category for jokes.

I see you wasted $20. Why didn't you do the research yourself? There are so many of these fly by night companies that take your money and give you crap. I'd report them to the Better Business Bureau, maybe even your State Attorney's office. These folks are frauds

Tossoff? i'm guessing you've been scammed, since in England a "tosser" is a jerk, so "tossoff" might be a joke.
